I was scheduled for a lava Hike tour since early Feb with another tour company. A week before the tour was to take place, they indicated the lava flow had changed and they were unable to conduct tours up to the pali (mountainside). After receiving the bad news, I frantically searched for a tour company who could accommodate. Kalapana Cultural... More

Kalapana were great to rent from! They were up front about value and costs - totally worth the $25 per bike. They gave us each a water, flashlight, first aid pack and bike lock. We got a ride down to the second gate in the SxS which was a big help in taking time off the trip. We haven't ridden... More

Seeing a lava flow has been on my bucket list for years. Finally we got to do it and what a trip it was. Ikaka and Andrew were great guides and sailors. My husband is a sailor and he was very impressed with Ikaka's skill at the helm. Our safety was their first priority and Andrew checked in with us... More

We were bombarded with many bike rental options when we arrived at the Kalapana lava viewing area. We are so glad that we chose Kalapana Cultural Tours. They had high quality bikes and provided us with everything we needed (flashlights, head lamps, first aid kit, bottled water, phone number if we needed assistance). The best part was that they offered... More

There is a lot of options for bike rental to view the lava flow. But if you want great service, a quality bike, and a free one-way shuttle then book with Kalapana Cultural Tours. We talked to several vendors once we arrived and most were focused on price vs service and quality. We chose quality and service over price and... More

Ikaika and Andrew were wonderful hosts for this tour. They showed us incredible hospitality and took the time to share their lived experiences (as children of Kalapana) and knowledge of Kalapana (and the larger district of Puna) with us. The experience was fun and exciting - and I felt incredibly safe with them as they also have extensive knowledge of... More

There are many lava boat tours to choose from - I recommend this one because they honor the culture and the history of the area, which makes the lava viewing that much more special. Y'all. If you are looking for a lava boat tour (which you must be if you are reading this), then definitely book with Kalapana Cultural Tours.... More

We took the lava boat tour with Kalapana, an awesome way to get up close to the lava. A small boat & only 6 passengers means you get a great view of the lava ocean entry. Comfortable seats, expert boat handling and informative local guides! Highly recommend them - much mahalo guys!

We had a lava hike scheduled with Kalpana Cultural Tours, but unfortunately the volcano decided not to cooperate and wasn't providing any surface flows when our tour was scheduled. We got an email from Kalpana the day before to explain the situation, tell us what the experience would be like, and give us some options including the option to cancel... More
