this tour was amazing! they got you super close to the lava that you could feel the heat, the water was almost boiling underneath you and the floating rocks were bumping into the side of the boat. (the rocks float because they are still molten and hot inside). i definitely recommend a lava boat as the best way to see... More

Great lava tour. We took the sunrise launch and it was well worth getting up early. The crew is friendly and the bigger boat is the way to go. The boat has 4 engines and a sturdy hull, that lets the captain get much closer to the lava flow than smaller fiberglass boats. Being the biggest boat, the captain dominated... More

If you want to get a close-up and personal visit with Pele building the world, then this is the trip. It is very hard to describe being right there where the lava is entering the ocean. The smell, sound, and the visual spectacle are really something to behold. We did the early (5:45 am) trip which is a little tough... More

I did the helicopter tour 12 years ago and saw a fire hose effect of lava spewing from the cliffs. Hoping to see the same only closer up we booked the boat tour. We initially booked with another tour (the cheaper one) but they cancelled, after we had already driven from Kona, because the seas were too rough for their... More

It's a rough and bumpy ride to the lava viewing ...which you are totally warned about. Keep in mind there is no guarantee what you will see, lava flows are on their own schedule, can't blame tour if it's not what you might expect. I have always wanted to see lava flow and was not disappointed. There were two visible... More

We received an email the day before confirming our tour was on. 3 hours later in the evening, an email came out saying the tour was cancelled. No phone call from the company, just an email which thankfully we saw before we travelled to the departure point. The company stated that they didn't have adequate numbers for the tour and... More

The lava is flowing May 2017! Terrific view of lava flowing into the ocean. The captain and team really know what they are doing. Got up close (legally) to lava. Best time to go is evening tour. If you're prone to sea sickness maybe not trip for you. The sea can be rough. Traveled with adult kids, not teens. We... More

We did this tour with our three teenage kids and although we saw more steam than lava it was still worthwhile. We could feel the heat once we got in close and every once in awhile we saw lava break thru the steam. I think my family's favorite part was the boat ride there and back (back was way more... More

We took the early morning tour. It was a wonderful and very unique experience. We, along with our 10-year-old son, were amazed to see up close the lava entering the ocean. The ride was very bumpy but we had cushioned seats so we were okay. Be ready to get wet but not drenched. It was nice to start out while... More

As every other review says, you definitely get wet, and the ride is rough. Some people get seasick. But it's an amazing experience and the only one that gets you to within 20 ft of the hot flowing lava. Lives up to and exceeds expectations.
