I love macadamia nuts, so I circled the Mauna Loa factory as a must stop on the return trip from Volcano National Park. This is a campy, shameless promotion vehicle for the Mauna Loa Nut Co ... but the nuts are delicious and the samples...More

If you are in the are with time to waste I guess this trip would be worth it. The gift shop is huge but the factory tour was less than expected. Basically a series of videos while gazing through the glass at an empty factory...More

We visited here on a private shore tour. Although crowded, you could sample almost everything and the products on offer were cheaper than the shelf prices in ABC stores. It is well worth a visit if you like macadamia nuts that have a variety of...More

I was hoping to really get informed on the farming and processing of macadamia nuts, but nope. The "tour" consists of a few windows looking down into a factory that, for us at least, was not operating. And had it been operating, there were no...More

On the way to the Visitor Center you pass through 3 miles of groves with periodic signs about macadamia nuts. There are 25,000 trees on 15,000 acres. When you arrive you can take a tour to learn more.In the gift shop they offer free samples of...More

This tour wasn't really a tour.......... just a way to get people into their over priced gift shop. We felt like we were tricked by false advertising.

Not very well setup - tour buses stop here, not sure why? They could use a makeover and something fun for the kids to do other than stare at 2 people boxing up nuts.

Mauna Loa Macadamia Nuts is a must stop on your visit to the Hilo side of the Big Island of Hawaii. Locals stop and shop there regularly, so you know this is a great place to purchase Fresh Macadamia Nuts. You will gain knowledge about...More

I am obsessed with macadamia nuts so we decided to make a spur of the moment stop here while in Hilo. The drive going towards the factory was really cool because you drive through the orchard, and could see all the macadamia nut trees. It...More

The "tour" involves just looking into some windows to see inside the factory. When we stopped by, production was shut down so we didn't even see that. We did the "Nature Walk" and tried some macadamia nuts to pass the time, but there are more...More

Sadly, the self guided tour is highly lacking. It takes 5 mins max and the video wasn’t working. It’s neat seeing the trees on the drive in, however, Costco has better prices.
