This park is very busy with local families. It was well kept and full of people having fun , right by the beach.

Go in the morning when the water is calm so visibility is better. Walk all around and you should see some turtles. Sometimes they are on rocks, other times they are swimming in deep tide pools. This beach is a favorite with locals and tourists...More

We got there in the afternoon, and found a spot on the grass to lie down and relax. There were many shades so no need to worry about the sun. The water was a bit cold. There were people swimming and snorkeling, we didn't bring...More

The day we visited we saw at least 15 turtles throughout the parks. Off to the far right of the park we saw 8 turtles in various sizes sunning and swimming in the tide pool. The snorkeling was great too, clear water with many fish....More

A small beach area where one can find some shade. Great snorkeling after managing the rocks and boulders in the shallows.

This park has a lot. There is the black sand beach to enjoy. Then, if you snorkel or just have goggles then you will be able to see a beautiful array of fish so close to the shore, and they don't run away. Finally, if...More

Snorkeling was only so so. The water was too stirred up by waves for good visibility; perhaps it would be better another time. Also, there's lots of rocks, so it's not a boogie boarding kind of beach either. The black sand on the beach was...More

Tranquil seaside parkland just a short drive from Hilo, with turtles feeding immediately offshore. Good swimming beaches and plenty of shade trees to relax under. Very relaxing.

A beautiful beach and park. Black sand beach. Saw sea turtles just off the sea wall. Bathrooms. A few surfers. Family oriented. Bring your bathing suit! Also a closeup view of Hawaiian fish ponds.

I agree with the first two answers above. You don't need to worry about a tour bus, the local bus does run there, but not on Sundays. Just look up the bus schedule online. Or when you get to Hilo you can call the bus company... More
