We took our family here for a Sunday stroll. The trail is an easy walk up and down paved path and in the middle is the overlook for the falls. The trees, flowers and vines embrace the whole area like a sacred grotto. Just lovely.

This is a gorgeous waterfall +400 ft. surrounded by incredibly lush foliage. The .5 mile loop is easy for most all people to walk. This is a shorts, T-shirts, and sneakers visit.

Amazing exploration. Took this on the way to Hilo and it is gorgeous. Also flew over it on a Helicopter ride with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters out of Waikaloa on the Big Island. Amazing.

If you are in Hilo or Kona I the way tomBilo take time to see the Akaka Falls. A bit of a walk to get there but we’ll worth it. You walk through a rain forest to get there. The falls are amazing.

It is just a short walk to the falls and there are beautiful plants and flowers all the way to it. If you go the other direction at the beginning of the trail, you go to another falls that you can't see as easily as...More

What’s not to like??!! Spectacular waterfalls - check, almost every tropical plant, tree - check, Jurassic park feeling - check!! It’s a beauty not to be missed. Not too far from Hilo, limited parking, just $1 entry if parking outside the Parkin lot.

Akaka Falls is located in Akaka State Park and is a “must see” on everyone’s itinerary. The falls are easily accessible by walking along a paved trail through a tropical rainforest. Many smaller waterfalls can be viewed as you walk along the path. Once you...More

The walk to is falls is as intriguing as the falls itself. Dense vegetation along the well marked trail. Beautiful flowers, bamboo, other small falls, streams, banyan trees. Since the viewing platform is nearly at the top edge of the falls and still some distance...More

There are a few stairs, so it might be challenging for one with a cane. Signs said the parking was $5, but was not charged, but there is a fee now to enter. As a senior I believe it was $3 to enter. This fee...More

The easiest way to get around is to rent a car. The airport in Hilo has all the major car rental agencies. Akaka falls isn't too far from Hilo, maybe 10 miles or so. It really shouldn't take you more than 45 minutes to an... More
