Not a whole lot to see - you walk a few minutes, stand on a platform with a gaggle of other people and check out the falls, which are tall and impressive, then walk back. If you park outside the parking lot you don't have...More

If you happen to be in the area, it is worth a short stop to see these falls. This is not the best waterfalls you will see on your trip, but it is easily accessible via a paved short trail. The longer trail was closed...More

Akaka Falls is beautiful, and would be highly recommended, but for the construction currently blocking the circle path (best route). Parking is 5$, however many park their cars just outside the gate, avoiding the charge in exchange for a short walk. Recommend to bring water.

We visited at a time when there were two gushing streams of water. You can not hike down to it but it is stunning. Apparently there is another way to enter the pool at the bottom by way of a different trail.

While on the HIlo side of the island this is a nice set of falls to go see. There were some people with Drones there (one person lost theirs !) that looked cool. The larger loop was closed so for us this was a 8...More

Falls were very impressive, but was disappointed there were no trails to hike down to the pools. Another paved trail was also closed. Certainly don't mind paying to see a site, but better if site is fully open.

It took me 16 years to get back to the Big Island and this was one of the sights I was really looking forward to seeing again. There is a paved walking path as all the others mention. You do not get very close to...More

Park outside carpark gates, it's literally 1 min walk from carpark (if that)and then you only pay $1 pedistrian entrance instead of $5 car entrance. The loop track is currently closed so only 5 min easy walk to falls. Few steps at start for those...More

You can go the way in normal clothes. Be careful when the floor is wet; then it can be slippery.

Is there any website or twitter feed or something that tells you if the waterfalls are flowing or not? I saw that it is not always active. Hoping to plan ahead and avoid a few hours in the car if the waterfalls aren't flowing.
