Came to the zoo with my family about an hour before closing time and was surprised that the zoo is free but you're encouraged to donate whatever you can to keep it going. We were greeted by peacocks walking freely which was a cool surprise. There were huge playgrounds that the kids loved and the highlight to us was the tiger exhibit. Both the tigers (one is a white tiger) came up to the fence and hung out with us. It's a very intimate zoo. My nephew (who will probably become a zoologist someday) loved getting up close to the numerous iguanas and cockatoos and other small creatures. Definitely recommend hitting this place if you have a family with small kids. Just wished we had more time to visit.…

We spent a morning there on a day with rain in the forecast after lunch. The flowers/plants were as interesting to us as the animals. Free, simple donations requested. Probably wouldn't go there if time was a factor but we had a week in just Hilo area so it was worth a few hours of time. …
