Coconut Island is smaller than I thought but still worth the quick stop. Beautiful views, great place for young kids to swim, even a platform people are using for jumping into the water at the end. Access for everyone to enjoy its beauty.

Coconut Island is a small island linked to Liliuokalani Gardens through a pedestrian footbridge. It is believed by ancient Hawaiian people that sick people can get healed by swimming around the eastern inlet of the island. There are a few picnic tables there to relax, enjoy the views of Hilo Bay and peaceful Liliuokalani Gardens. There is a shallow natural... More

This is one of my favorite places in Hilo. Its official name is Moku Ola, which means healing island, and its a great spot for that. You get there by crossing a footbridge. There are several swimming areas, a large grassy area where people play frisbee and gymnastics/parkour type acrobatics. Tons of local people fishing and setting up canopies to... More

It's a park with some picnic tables, a few random seemingly homeless musicians. The swimming didn't look all that great. Frankly, not worth the visit.

Lots of locals picnicking and swimming in the water. Is a short walk from the Japanese gardens gardens and worth the effort.

Great park to see turtles - have a picnic and take an easy walk. We were staying at the Doubletree Hotel right next door so it's very convenient to walk there.

My local friend is a DJ and hosted a silent disco (attendees wear headphones) on an early Sunday afternoon. Great place to lay a blanket and have a picnic! Green grass island maybe a couple hundred yards across, with restrooms, pavilions, and plenty to look at. Across the little footbridge is a nice Japanese style garden to walk around as... More

A nice place to walk or sit and enjoy both the bay and the ocean. Picnic tables are available. We sat and enjoyed the island, on a sunny day, while killing time and waiting to go to the airport

Great place to swim for people of all ages in the heart of Hilo. This place is usually pretty busy on a nice day.
