I always hesitated going here because who wanted to see a bunch of old bicycles and read a lot of yadda-yadda facts about Deke Slayton. But, when I did go this museum, I was totally taken aback!! What a fantastic place to visit!! Yes, there is a bunch of old bicycles, but they are so interesting that I could not... More

I initially stopped to just get a photo of the bicycle outside the building. However, ended up inside. Totally fascinating! I've been to the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, KS. The Duke Slayton is a mini space history revolving around Mr Slayton. .and.....the bicycle portion was pretty neat also. Who knew Sparta was the US bicycle capital. Space travel and bicycles are... The museum is amazing. The space component is a strength, based on favorite son Donald Deke Slayton. The bicycle aspect is intriguing with so many great and different styles back to the high wheel. They are known by their representative "Ben Biken." They share with businesses on a rotating display.

Well worth the $5 admission. Extensive collection from life and career of Deke Slayton. Also includes other astronauts with Wisconsin connections. Would have liked to see more on the history and development of bicycles as the bike display is not organized chronologically. Located on the second floor. Unsure if there is an elevator. Expect to spend about an hour. The... More

I'm a cyclist, so that is what drew me to this museum on Aug. 31, while my wife was at a fabric store. I'm so glad I saw this, with so many interesting bikes and their stories. I took several photos of what most interested me. Cost is $5 (adults)

I had recently finished reading the Astronauts Wives Club and my interest was again directed to Deke Slayton. This museum is great stop on the way to somewhere else. It really displayed the chronology of his life very well with lots of actual artifacts. I was particularly fascinated with events in his life post Apollo 13. There is also a... More

My 30ish son and I passed through Sparta on our way to Washington state along I-90. I was particularly interested to visit the area again as my fathers side of the family is from the town and I wanted to check up on ancestor graves and the old home place. My son, the bicycle enthusiast, wanted to check out the... More
