Welcome to a great place to learn, play and explore the rich maritime history of Wisconsin and the Great Lakes region. Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum offers visitors a unique place to spend hours learning about the sailors, shipbuilders and submariners who made that history, and to have some great family fun! Founded in 1970 as the Manitowoc Submarine Memorial Association, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum has grown into one of the largest maritime museums in the Midwest. In addition to commemorating the maritime heritage of the Manitowoc-Two Rivers area and the submarines built here during World War II, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum is now a leader in preserving the maritime history of Wisconsin and the Great Lakes region.

This place is really cool. The Submarine is something everyone who can crawl into, should. It is tight, just as you might expect, so see it before you get to infirm. We had a group tour and they do a magnificent job explaining the workings of the boat. Interesting choices the sailors had with their water ration. Where they stowed... More

I was a little skeptical about going because either it was going to have way too much stuff and my husband was going to want to read every plaque OR my kids (ages 6 and 12) would be bored and thus whiny. NOPE! This place was fun for all of us! The exhibits were interesting and well put together and... More

This is an excellent choice to take visitors, or when you are visiting in the Manitowoc Wisconsin area. The submarine tour is outstanding, you really get an actual viewing of the submarine and the set up. The rest of the museum also has outstanding displays and descriptions.

Wisconsin Maritime Museum has it all...a submarine in a city where similar submarines were built, a great area for kids to play with water and anything that floats, models and antique vessels, great videos. Also a great place to shop for maritime themed gifts!

While I wouldn't say that this museum is worth making a long journey to visit, it is definitely worth your while to check out if you're in the area. Your admission also gets you a tour of the USS Cobia submarine, which is a nice bonus. I found the most interesting part of the museum (aside from the sub tour)... More

My students and I had a great time visiting the museum and spending the night on the WWII submarine U.S.S. Cobia.

Visited this museum during Manitowoc Sub Fest in July 2016. Displays include small pleasure boats, freighter engines along with other equipment. However, the highlight is the USS Cobia a WWII deisel electric submarine built in Manitowoc and lovingly preserved.

I am a retired sub sailor who sailed on this class of boat( and a fried was on this boat twice at different times. The boat is one of the finest maintained boats still left and I am honored to visit her every year on reunion dates, usually in May or July. If anyone wants to see how the WWII... More

We went while visiting over the holidays - we ended up being the only people in the place, which is the best way to see and experience everything! You have to take a tour of the submarine, it really is an interesting time. Be prepared to step up and duck down to get through the doors - not easy if... More

Almost 50 years after spending 4 years in the Navy, this tour was very interesting. I never saw the inside of a sub while on active duty, but many hours in airplanes training sub hunters. We didn't spend much time in the indoor museum, but the 45 minute tour of the Cobia made the visit worthwhile. Jim, the tour guide,... More
