This is a great trail to ride for any level of biker! We are novice bikers and did the trail from Sparta to Elroy (33 miles) in just under 5 hours. We stayed in Elroy and had a nice shuttle driver drop us in sparta,...More

My husband and I are new to biking. We are in our mid 50s and he bought me an E-bike this year. It's the great equalizer that takes all the whining out of biking. Plus, I can keep up with him. The Elroy-Sparta Trail was...More

This was my 5th trail on my bike trip between Mankato to Wisconsin Dells. If you use this trail from Elroy to Sparta, it is good. But if you start from Sparta to Elroy, It would be hard for you. Because the surface is little...More

We headed here for a long weekend in early May. We rode Friday and Saturday and saw very few people on the trail. The distance to Sparta is 32 miles but passes through several small towns along the way. This makes for an easy ride....More

Great place to take family, youth groups. Expect all day ride. Best to bring sandwiches and snacks. A couple small places to stop in along the way. Fun to go through the tunnels, all you can see is a little light way off at the...More

This is a really nice bike ride. The trail goes through three tunnels. You need a flashlight. We dropped our car off in Elroy and got a shuttle to Sparta, then biked the 32.5 miles back to Elroy. There is several towns along the trail...More

Slow going for a bike tour on road bikes but the tunnels were fun. After the 3rd tunnel we went over to the road for the rest of the way to Sparta, plenty of shoulder and just as scenic, much faster.

We started in kendall at the "Depot". We paid $20.00 to have a guide (friends of elroy sparta trail president "Dave") drive us to tunnel 3 and drop us off. He takes your own car and then parks it back at the depot so it...More

I would not want to ride this with a rode bike. There are some sandy places on the trail, a lot of ruts and holes. We were there in the falI and there were a lot of leaves on the trail. I had the same thought before we rode... More

I agree with the previous posts - go hybrid. There were many times along the ride that I was thankful to not be on a road bike due to uneven conditions and loose gravel. Enjoy the ride!

Hello. I want to bicycle the entire trail. I would rather get the uphill battle over during the 1st half of the ride. Does one way have more climbing than the other? Where is the beginning/end of the trail in Elroy and Sparta? Where should I park? Thank you...

The trail is 32 miles long, so it's a 64 mile round trip. Total elevation is 1500 feet. You must go through three tunnels. That's where the upgrades are. The upgrades are gradual, so it's not really a battle. After you walk... More
