I hiked the Polly Trail. Intended to hike the trail out and back but lost the blazes near the end and finished by coming down a different mountain bike trail instead. Gorgeous and easily accessible park with many different sites to explore; I only had a couple of hours.

The park is rough camping, not a lot of extras. Some spots have electric, but no water to hook up to, The spots to put your tents are uneven and have gravel and tree trunks to put tents on, not comfortable, and there is not a lot of space for chairs and most didn't have any pic nic tables.

I'm not a very 'countrified girl' but I do enjoy the peace and quiet of Kanawha State Forest. Plenty of places to pull over and get out to explore the area. Walking paths, picnic areas and just places to stop and relax. Go here several times a year.

We hike here on a regular. The trail close to the pond has a nice Merry-Go-Round that we like to get on. Reminds me of when I was a kid, and my kids think it awesesome. The creek is fun to play in during the summer. We also like to explore different trails. They have plenty of places to grill.

This beautiful park is only 15 minutes from the state capitol Charleston. There are numerous well marked hiking trails with varying degrees of difficulty. Many scenic picnic spots and shelters. I recommend purchasing the trail map available at the park office. There is a free map bit it is poor quality

The folks who care for the park do their best with few resources. Greater Charleston has to be the least walkable metro area I've ever been; no shade, completely car-oriented, minimally bike-friendly. The park is hard to find, but that's ok. The Nomadic Tribe (think 60's Rainbow Gathering) were having their annual event when I happened to go. Great to... More
