Five Mile Drive is an extension of sorts to Point Defiance Park. It meanders around the perimeter of the park with numerous places to park to enjoy varying views of Puget Sound. There are numerous picnic areas and a multitude of trails to hike in "old growth" surroundings.

Always a great way to spend some time at Pt. Defiance park. Just recently we viewed some humpback whales from one of the view points. Great for biking. Many fairly easy trails, but watch out for hungry raccoons.

The drive around the park is very peaceful. You go from heavily forested terrain to Owens Beach - the up a steep hill to finish your trip around the park. The views of Puget Sound are spectatular, Make sure you stop at old Ft. Nisqually! It's a great place to let your kids out to run!

For those who haven't been to Tacoma or just have a few extra minutes this is great drive with beautiful scenery and plenty of places to pull off and enjoy water views.

Sadly we arrived on a dreadfully raining day. We drove across the park and stopped for a bit of a walk and then the heavens open up. Would've liked to see more of the actual park. Really enjoyed Fort Nisqually though.

This is our go-to park for walks, hikes, biking and even has an off-leash dog park for the pups. Beautiful trees, rhododendron garden, historical village with historic re-enactors, biking, swimming, boating, stand-up paddle board & kayak rentals...

Worth the time, great for all kinds of family's. Be careful the racoon's are too friendly, and it's a $300+ fine if you feed them. The self tour includes a zoo, living fort, and dog areas. Good for picnicking.

Touring Five Mile Drive has been compared to going around NY's Central Park, except less crowded. It can be a slow drive or pleasant walk or even casual bicycle. My only complaint as a cyclist is the occasional speed bump. They're curb to curb w/o a gap, which I find off putting.

We had very little time to explore during our five days, but I managed to get us to this wonderful drive, along the waterfront, and in the pouring rain! Totally worth it, would have been so much better in the sun, but still so happy we went and stopped all along the way in the afternoon. Next time I hope... More
