Definitely recommend at least doing the 5 mile scenic drive through the park, even if you can't stop and walk around or check out the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, Fort Nisqually, Rhododendron Garden, etc. It's a beautiful drive through classic Pacific Northwest forest and there are great views of the Puget Sound.

The zoo, which is heavily involved in saving endangered species, has an interesting selection of animals and lots of activities for kids. The gardens are in bloom from springtime through fall. There's a duck pond near the gardens and a five mile drive through an old growth Northwest forest with spectacular views of Puget Sound and the Tacoma Narrows Bridge

We drove around the Park to check out the views. There's lots of nice views of the sound and the Tacoma Narrows bridge. The Park itself is pretty, too...but otherwise, there's nothing too spectacular about it. It's just a nice visit.

This place is beautiful. Done miss the scenic drive, if I had more time I would love to walk the 5 miles, but it was enchanting in a car as well. The miss between forest just makes you feel like you are in another time, it is very calming. The fort was closed when we went (too early) but the... More

We decided to go on a whim and so glad we did! We just drove the 5 mile loop in the car, but it was beautiful. I got to exercise my camera quite a bit. Can't beat the price of free either!

Job, walk, or drive along 5 mile drive and you feel as if you are in 1800s old growth virgin forest. The view of the narrows and Gig Harbor is spectacular. Accessible all seasons

The Pacific Northwest is reknown for it's vast canopy of evergreen forests. In the City of Tacoma, there is a pennisula jutting into the Puget Sound that encompasses acres of unspoiled woods. It is called Point Defiance Park and is a perfect place to enjoy endless shades of green, ranging from ferns to firs. The trails meander through lush undergrowth... More

You can see what Tacoma was like 200 years ago. Beautiful hiking paths around the park. The 5 mile drive around the perimeter is wonderful . Fort Nisqually interpretive center gives you a glimpse of how the frontiersman lived. The icing on the cake is the zoo.
