This visitor center has a good selection of books, as well as impressive educational displays (including examples of hiking gear attacked by bears), as well as helpful and informative rangers who can provide maps for the area.

It's a visitor center. The ranger at the counter was helpful. Beyond that it had a few displays and pretty easy to read hiking guide. For a visitor center it was ok

This is a good place to stop and stretch when crossing North Cascades Pass. The visitors center, itself, is pretty basic, with a boring display and crappy souvenirs, but a store across the way is an interesting browse and a has good line of snacks. An old locomotive provides the kids something to marvel at. There is a park and... More

There was not much of anything to see as far as displays go. The biggest benefit is getting info about the trails and campgrounds from the Rangers. You can also buy the usual np shirts and patches here.

This visitor center is in a park like setting. There is an old train the kids ( and adults ) can climb on, plenty of room to run around, walk the dog. There are some picnic tables to have lunch at or just to take a break. Hopefully none of the kids playing will discover the bell on the train.... More

Newhalem, located near mile marker 120 on the North Cascades Highway (WA-20), is the still operating company town, complete with small residences, dining hall, general store and post office, for Seattle City Light which operates the power generation operations of the three dams and reservoirs located nearby on the Skagit River. There are many things for visitors to explore besides... More

You're driving down 20 East towards the Cascades or West back to town, and you pass Newhalem, WA. Pull in. Take the time to walk amongst this piece of history. It's still a functioning town for the local City Light workers, complete with a dining hall, colorful homes, a local mercantile, a small museum, very clean bathrooms, and a couple... More

Really enjoyed the little trail there. It took through the ancient cedars and explained them all. The snack bar had great hot dogs!

We stopped at the Newhalem Visitor Center on our way into North Cascades National Park. The visitor center was somewhat small, but there was ample pull through parking for our 30 ft RV, and the national park store carried the walking stick medallions we were collecting (but didn't have the stickers for the passport book). There's a quick hike out... More
