Two miles up a well-graded trail through the forest and you come over the edge of a meadow where the sudden view of Mount Baker in all its glory has more than a few hikers exclaiming out loud. You can stop right here and bask in the views, or continue along the ridge towards Baker. The trail goes until you... More

A great walk which springs a surprise on you after walking for an hours through the trees. As soon as you walk out you are amongst the flowers in a meadow worth the bulk of Mount Baker right in front of you. Wander around the ridge and take in additional views from the other peaks available from this great walk.

Me and my husband really love living in NW and hiking around. This hike is very special to us because my husband proposed on the higher point of the farthest mountain. The view around was just spectacular! From now on it's our favorite place to re-visit when we are in romantic mood and when want a descent amount of exercise.

After nearly 10 years of having people telling us we should hike the Skyline Divide trail, and after one attempt where we were socked in with fog, we finally were able to hike this trail in spectacular weather. The trail is fairly short (2 miles to the best view in Whatcom County) but the first two miles are pretty steep.... More

We stopped at the Ranger station in Glacier to buy a parking pass ($5). The 12 mile gravel road up was rough. It would have been better to have a high clearance vehicle but we made it up in our mini-van. The first part of the hike consisted of switchbacks through the forest. When you finally pop out onto the... More

My husband had waxed eloquent about the beauty of the Skyline Ridge trail. I finally made it to the trail head on August 17. It was a beautiful clear day. The drive up is about 20 kilometers (12 miles) on a poorly maintained road, which really only accomodates one car. As you arrive at the full parking lot, you realize... More

The road in hasn't been graded yet but I hear that's happening soon. I just went slow and didn't have any problems, I guess the maintenance crews didn't schedule for the early snow melt. The first couple miles are a bit steep through the forest, lots of green with water breaks made it doable. The breakout on the ridge was... More

A very short hike brings you out to a ridge where the views seem to be endless, if you time it right the wildflowers up here are amazing, I heard someone comment all that was missing was Julie Andrews to pop over a hill singing " the hills are alive with the sound of music ' !!

This hike begins with a 3 1/2 mile, 1500 elevation gain hike through a very pleasant forest, then opens up to a stellar view of Mount Baker, and, I believe, Shuksan. The descriptions of this hike are confusing because, once you reach the open meadow, you can travel as far as you'd like, up and down the ridges--it is fantastic!... More
