Located in the middle of the Wild Horse Wind and Solar Facility, the Renewable Energy Center allows visitors to see how the energy of the wind and sun are turned into electricity. Displays in the exhibit area highlight wind and solar technology, as well as the area’s unique natural history. Set high on a ridge above the Kittitas Valley, Puget Sound Energy's Renewable Energy Center offers up-close views of the wind turbines and solar arrays, local wildlife, and the Cascade mountain range. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily from April through November, weather permitting. A conference room accommodating 48 people and a kitchen area are available for group use. Presentations and tours can be arranged in advance for larger groups. Daily tours to the base of the turbines are offered at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.

We liked our stop here for a tour. Nice, informative. Our tour guide stopped one windmill and let us inside. Comparing to our evergreen surrounding in Seattle area, here steppe in Ellensburg. It was nice to see completely different ecosystem in just 1.5 hours of driving and new source of energy.

A nice place to visit. Lots of hands on activities for kids. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. It was a foggy and rainy day, so we plan to go back when it's nice and we can see more!

On a clear day you can almost see Idaho. An informative and interesting visit. Very well presented including the cultural section on Native American history. Educational for the young scientists in the family and the adult rate payers who wonder about their electrical bill. Great outing for the motorcycle club or the family looking for a picnic spot with a... More

The air b&b we stayed in Ellensburg told us about this place so we went and took the tour. Very informative. We learned a lot about wind. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Got to go inside one of the windmills. They also have a very nice visitor's center. Worth a trip to see when you are in... More

Missed the tour, but staff (?Cullen and Taylor were terrific) still answered our questions and offered tips if back in the area with our Autistic adult son who loves the wind turbines. Interactive displays for everyone. Even with missing the tour could get close enough to a turbine. Also had a damaged blade that a person could visualize and touch.... More

The facility had great information on wind energy but the tour was worth the trip. Our tour guide, Colin, was enthusiatic, informational, and peaked our interest in renewable energy. A great tour for all ages.

We drove up specifically for the tour...but were amazed at the views up there. Mt. Rainier was out in all her glory and we could also see Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Adams (I think that's the other mountain we saw!) I would have been happy to just see and enjoy the views and the warm wind that was blowing.... More
