Definitely drive up to observation level and go inside to view exhibits. Walk the trails nearby and take in the incredible view. Plan on at least half a day or more. It’s worth it, especially on a sunny day.

Only 5 miles from I 5 freeway don't miss this very informative visitor centre. It's $5 dollars to get in, but there is a great film in the theatre shown at regular intervals about the Mount St Helens eruption. Lots of displays and news clippings...More

The view from the center is amazing. A must visit if you are in this part of Washington. The rangers are friendly and helpful and the presentations are very interesting. There are also several challenging trails to hike that leave from the trail head at...More

The Visitor Center is a nice place to start the trip up the mountain. There is a very good video and a lot of displays that are worth looking over. And... it's free!

This is a nice view of the mountain without driving 47 more miles to the observatory. Nice trails are available to gain other views of the mountain. Rangers also conduct sessions explaining facts of the area. And, it is FREE!

Many signs have missing words, are scratched up, difficult to read. Oh I wished people weren't so destructive but when they are, it would be nice if things were fixed. Very informative center - make sure you see the documentary. Takes about an hour in...More

I loved the video's in the theater. one about the volcano itself and another one on the ecosystem recovery. Very interesting. There were many photo's and interviews from survivors and others. Very touching.

The day we set out to see the mountain it was cloudy, so no views, and the roads were still closed due to snow?!?!? It was memorial day weekend. How is it that there was still snow on the roads? We never did make it...More

From the visitor center to the observatory center is about 1hr drive. Windy roads, large bridges and amazing views.

We drove to Mt St Helens from Portland as that is where we were staying. The observatory is the place to get the best view and information about the eruption!!! Hope it works out for you.

Depending on your age and stamina, I would suggest leaving Everett very early in the morning to avoid Seattle/Tacoma traffic (you probably know how bad it can be.) As suggested, maybe skip the visitor's center and drive on... More
