Beautiful Scenery

We travelled along the Spirit Lake Memorial Highway on a day in late fall. The scenery was fantastic. We really enjoyed it.

The Spirit Lake Memorial Highway (highway 504) that goes from Interstate-5 to the Johnson Ridge Visitor Center is a beautiful drive. It is a wide road with lots of bends, turns and some pull outs. The road has many large bridges as well, including the Hoffstadt Bridge. The Hoffstadt Bridge is the longest and tallest of fourteen bridges on the... More

As we left the interstate, we wondered how the road would be to Johnston Ridge Visitor's Center and was excited to find this road wide, level (bridges used to cross ravines), great views of Mt St Helens, many turnouts and am easy road that goes up 4,000 feet. Overall, about an hour drive from I5 to terminus at the Johnston... More

This is a beautiful drive. It can be slow so take your time. We were surprised at the number of bicyclists pedaling up to Johnston Ridge. Watch out for them. There are a number of blind curves. There were a also the usual drivers who want to treat this as a speedway. ignore them and pull over when you come... More

We drove up this highway on a warm clear day on the mountain for a change! Great views and great places to stop and look around. The only way to the Johnston Ridge Observatory.

I'm not sure why this is listed as an attraction, it's just a winding road leading to the Johnston observatory and the volcano. Nothing f interest to see from the road and not that pretty of a drive.

A beautiful and lush drive up to the Mt St. Helens Information Centre. There are some great turn off look outs for photos of the valley and the volcano.

A very pleasant 50 mile drive to the observatory ridge. The original road was destroyed in the 1980 eruption and some serious thought went into the reconstruction. Kudos to the engineers.
