We planned our walking tour of Bellingham and Fairhaven to include walking through the Arboretum. We approached the Arboretum from the north, via Jersey Street. The climb from that direction is not for the faint of heart. The Arboretum is a lovely place to escape...More

There is a good chance you'll have to share the view with a college kid or two. However, if you get the right time and are alone, it can be extremely peaceful. The walk up is a fairly steep incline, but not difficult. You will...More

I walk my way to work through here almost every day. It's a great walk that offers a main trail thats pretty easy, as well as more difficult side trails. Or you can just go off the trail.

Trails maintained for any access level. Most of the trails are gently sloped so its easy to take a long or short walk through the woods. There are several paved roads so even in rainiest conditions its easy to walk without getting your shoes muddy....More

The Sehome Hill Arboretum is a great place for a walk. Make sure to go to the observation tower for a nice view.

After a great meal at Boomer's Drive-In we drove to the top and walked to the tower. On the drive up we saw wildlife just off to the side of the road. Even on a cloudy day the view from the tower was enjoyable and...More

The Arboretum has a very long climb from base to the top of the hill, so expect to get a good workout. The view from the Observation Tower is impressive, and walking through the short tunnel was fun. We took a detour while at the...More

The nature trails are well-traveled, so ease of access is good. I recommend good traction footwear, especially if the weather is wet. The view is worth the short hike, which is about 500 feet of elevation gain.

How lucky to have this right in town. We hike in the arboretum once or twice a week. Often are the only ones there, (early morning) esp on weekends. College kids sleeping in. Sometimes run into do g walkers. Don't miss the fire tower lookout....More

Gentle hiking trails in a wooded setting above Bellingham. Partial views of the bay. Pleasant area. Climb the tower for the best views. Fall and winter offer better views when the foliage is off of the trees.

Where is the best place to park? Today, (12/30/16) I found out that Arboretum Drive was closed off, and there was just a tiny parking lot before the closure that was completely full. Was just checking it out on the way somewhere else, but want to go back and hike the trails some other time, so would appreciate some information. Thanks!

Yes we drove to the top at the end of the drive. We had tried parking on the East side but there were no parking signs within the residential area. Maybe try around the university as there may be paid parking. Do try again... More
