The highlights of our visit were the new fire tower with its amazing views and the peaceful recreational area around Bark Camp lake. If you have a four wheel drive, that is really helpful on some of the steeper roads. We took our dog, and he really liked the cool air. At the lake, there are plenty of picnic tables, walking trails, and a fishing dock. We went before the season opened, so the restrooms were not open...so prepare accordingly if you go in the off-season!

I'm not sure if we took the major scenic route or even if there is a different road but man it is definitely a white knuckle ride! My husband drove slow and steady up but this road really put the rental van to work. There are tons of switchbacks and you basically go straight up. I personally enjoyed the ride, my daughter and mother in law not so much.It was thrilling but also made me feel a little queasy if I looked over the edge on the way up. When we finally got up to the top and stopped in the parking lot the van was smoking, my husband said it was the transmission. After a short walk (also up) we made it to the look out and it was beautiful! There are no restrooms up here so make sure you use it before you get on the road to go up. We passed the Flag Rock turn off but it was getting late so we didn't stop by. I would stay this is a for stop if you want to see some amazing views. We visited the last week of March/ First week of April

I came down to Wise, VA to visit a friend and he drove me up here to get out and hike. The view was amazing and it was a great place to take a breather. Be careful about the Woodbooger!

This place is amazing its so pretty. Great for picture taking of coarse there's no leaves on trees this time of yr but it is still beautiful. The road up is steep and curvy so be safe we were fortunate enough not to pass anyone. There's also a spot to fish and picnic on the way, will definitely revisit hopefully in the fall when leaves are changing. So if you love the mountains and have never been here you have got to visit!
