Decided to go for a hike at the falls on a Saturday and really enjoyed it. It's a scenic hike and not terribly strenuous (many were even carrying their babies up). Took us about an hour to get to the top and just under that...More

This is noted as a "moderate" hike by the Parks department, but I would classify it as harder than moderate for most of it. It is 1.7 (yes, I noted every marker...) up the side of the falls/hill. We are in good shape albeit used...More

This was our first hike of our Blue Ridge Road Trip. We brought lunch and started up. At first it's tough, a lot of stairs and incline. I think Alltrails said it was 1100 feet. I think that was exaggerated but it's still a decent...More

IMO tis is one of the best falls trails in VA. This is primarily a cascade type of waterfall with 5 (I think) and is listed as one of the tallest in VA. Again, IMO although it's primarily cascade type, I see some of the...More

This hike was a bit more difficult then I originally thought; we made our way 3.5 miles (one way) to the Appalachian trail! Wear good shoes and bring water + snacks. Trail is dog friendly; keep dogs on leash.

The trail starts out paved and easy to the first overlook at the Falls. from there the trail becomes more challenging. The higher you go the better the views. The trails are in good shape and very well marked. The trail has a lot of...More

Wonderful views from the top and scenic rests along the way. Plan to take your time and perhaps have a picnic at the top.

We hiked this trail again in May after having a lot of rain. The falls were spectacular! The trail is slightly challenging, but relatively easy compared to some trails we have been on. There is a beautiful viewing area located at the base of the...More

This is definitely challenging, but the constant waterfall views along the way make it worth it. The trails are in excellent condition! The falls are beautiful. Keep in mind that when you reach the top, you don't actually see any falls at that point, but...More

This is a hidden gem in Nelson County. It is the tallest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River. OK, some people like to quibble because it is a series of drops rather than a straight drop. The series of drops makes it much more enjoyable...More

It is a fine mountain highway. That being said, we are not mountain people, and took it from the top down- it is a little nerve-wracking but should be fine for any normal vehicle. The pavement is in good condition, just... More
