Interesting reproduction of the original structure. Very opulent building for the period. Lots of gun and swords displayed on entry to show power of the governor. There is a docent lead tour through the building. Very informative and worth the time.

Be sure to walk the palace grounds after a tour. There are lots of hidden gems such as the steps, trails, and paths leading to the pond, the maze, the gardens, the kitchen, the under ground ice box, etc!

Your first step into this building will show you the power held by the colonial governors by the display of armaments all around the foyer. Continue through the building to get a fell for the aristocracy of the times.

I've been to many colonial houses and this one was average. Our tour guide was friendly and informative. I will say it was the best house tour of our trip to Williamsburg.

Such a remarkable reconstruction of the original building and property. A definite highlight from our recent visit to Colonial Williamsburg. We even took in a dramatic presentation on the back lot of the gardens, next to the maze, of The Young Thomas Jefferson and Jupiter,...More

We enjoyed the tour of the palace and it's beautiful ballroom and learned how the elite lived in 18th century Virginia.

The Governor's Palace was a neat place to visit. It was interesting to see how the governor lived compared to commoners.

I too have not heard of a private tour but encourage you to ask. I would think there are others who'd appreciate this service.
