Shenandoah Caverns has been thrilling visitors since 1922. It is the only Virginia cavern with elevator service, making it one of the easiest caverns to tour. It's also the closest major cavern to I-81 (Exit 269). Our famous bacon formations are so unusual they were featured in National Geographic. Personally guided tours through our 17 soaring rooms take approximately one hour. Also see our other attractions: Main Street of Yesteryear, American Celebration on Parade (open seasonally), and the Yellow Barn. Open all year. Located 2 minutes from I-81, Exit 269, five miles north of New Market, VA in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Let the exploration begin! Please keep in mind that while Shenandoah Caverns does have an elevator, it is not considered handicap accessible. The pathway is crushed gravel with slight inclines throughout the tour, so assistance is required to navigate the tour via wheelchair. There is also one small portion that is not accessible by wheelchair at all. If you are walking the tour, you must be able to stand for one hour and walk one mile. If you have any questions about accessibility, please give us a call.

We were the only ones on our cavern tour, which was pretty cool. Tour guide was knowledgeable and pretty chill. Cavern was on the smaller side, compared to Luray nearby, but it had its little wonders which made it unique and worth the visit. Would...More

This is a good tour to take and see the sights of nature at work. We appreciated the elevator and really enjoyed our young tourguide. I definitely recommend seeing this cave.

We enjoyed the hour long tour of the caverns. Patricia was our guide and did a fine job. You take an elevator down to the caverns and walk about 1 mile round trip underground. The cavern temperature is always around the mid 50’s. The walk...More

Arrived around 9:15 am and there was no line and our tour group was 12 people, much smaller than Luray Caverns. These are a smaller scale cavern compared to Luray Caverns, but had just as many cool sights to see. Our party of 8 was...More
