Blackburn Cathedral is one of England's newest cathedrals, yet it is one of the country's oldest places of Christian worship. For many centuries, this has been the Parish Church of Blackburn dedicated to St. Mary the Virgin. It continues as a place of prayer and worship and is now at the centre of the Diocese which takes in almost the whole of Lancashire.

The new coffee shop/cafe in the Cathedral is just lovely. It's warm and cozy but still manages to be stylish. The food is delicious and the staff are so efficient and obliging. A lift is provided for anyone with walking difficulties though he cafe can be accessed from level ground too. It is true it is a little expensive but... More

This is a magnificent building in very good condition. There are a lot of interesting facts and views - the Transept area is clever and the Nave and Sanctuary worth looking at. There are some lovely sculptures, especially the one of Worker Christ. Well worth a viewing if you are in the area.

The cathedral is wonderful and is very interesting to spend some time just wandering around. The crown of throrns above the altar is well worth seeing. My only criticism would be the coffee shop which is a bit expensive. Some walked out over the prices and others questioned whether the price was right!

Fantastic venue for such a debate. These fantastic buildings need using for so much more than religious events. The hospitality shown was brilliant and well organised. A very enjoyable experience

Lovely building. Interesting st0ory boards tucked away in a corner. Give the tearoom a miss though. Not very good and over-priced.

The Cathedral was originally a Parish Church and is a beautiful small Cathedral. You must visit the Cathedral if you are in Blackburn. It has the most amazing church organ and the crown of thorns over the alter is beautiful. There is a really lovely atmosphere in the Cathedral and is well worth a visit. The new Café serves great... What a difference two years' makes! I visited the Cathedral AFTER the massive building project in its precinct, which consists of a new Cloister Garth and associated clergy accommodation, New hotel and office block, and public realm improvements. This has really 'upped' the stakes, when it comes to 'cathedral cities'. The Cathedral Building sits in a green oasis in the... More
