Blackburn Cathedral is one of England's newest cathedrals, yet it is one of the country's oldest places of Christian worship. For many centuries, this has been the Parish Church of Blackburn dedicated to St. Mary the Virgin. It continues as a place of prayer and worship and is now at the centre of the Diocese which takes in almost the whole of Lancashire.

The cathedral is wonderful and is very interesting to spend some time just wandering around. The crown of throrns above the altar is well worth seeing. My only criticism would be the coffee shop which is a bit expensive. Some walked out over the prices and others questioned whether the price was right!

Fantastic venue for such a debate. These fantastic buildings need using for so much more than religious events. The hospitality shown was brilliant and well organised. A very enjoyable experience

Beautiful cathedral bright well lit with plenty of interesting things to see from old to centennial poppy from Tower of London. Lovely building. Interesting st0ory boards tucked away in a corner. Give the tearoom a miss though. Not very good and over-priced.

The Cathedral was originally a Parish Church and is a beautiful small Cathedral. You must visit the Cathedral if you are in Blackburn. It has the most amazing church organ and the crown of thorns over the alter is beautiful. There is a really lovely atmosphere in the Cathedral and is well worth a visit. The new Café serves great... What a difference two years' makes! I visited the Cathedral AFTER the massive building project in its precinct, which consists of a new Cloister Garth and associated clergy accommodation, New hotel and office block, and public realm improvements. This has really 'upped' the stakes, when it comes to 'cathedral cities'. The Cathedral Building sits in a green oasis in the... More

A wonderful tour of the Cathedral, the new garden close. The new buildings have been designed to be in keeping with the original Parish Church and Cathedral extensions. It has really put the heart into Blackburn and the design team and the local council are to be congratulated on the result.

born and raised in the town a recent return has highlighted the destruction and demolition of most historic or architecturally interesting buildings so the renovation and alteration of the towns cathedral is a delight enhancing the immediate area and remaining a contemporary but stunning church building. The basement cafe was also a great stop for coffee. Worth a look even... More
