We were given a talk in the church which has a fascinating history - the lava stopped just outside during the mass eruption and the church was saved. Well worth a visit as you wander round this beautiful town. It is very peaceful.

Like a lot of the small towns and Villages across the Island they all have these amazing churches in them dedicated to the Catholic faith. I'm not religious at all, but, love visiting these little churches and their wealth of history. Worth popping into to have a look.

If in Yaiza, this church is worth a look in even if just for a quiet moment on a hot day.
Quiet, peacful and you cannot help but relax and think as you sit there surrounded by history.

Yaiza's central church and dedicated to the catholic faith.
A very reverential establishment in full use by the community.
The ceiling is beautiful, but also the statues and reliquiries.
In particular the body of Christ in the nave.
Free to view and worth a brief visit while travelling through Yaiza.

This is the church in the centre of Yaiza. The guidebooks all mention the painted ceiling, but the interior has several interesting features. As all Catholic Churches do, it has the Stations of the Cross around the walls, but they are painted on lumps of volcanic rock. To the right is a large crucifix with underneath it a life size memento mori: Christ's dead body lying in the tomb. To the left is a large painting of the Virgin Mary which I would guess dates back to the building of the church as Mary is wearing a farthingale. This church is clearly in use and there may be parishioners who have stopped by for a quiet prayer, so you may need to step quietly.
