We didn't have time (and the mood) for the tour of the salinas, but we stopped along the way on the viewpoint and then drove down to check the shop. At the time of our visit there were no pyramids of white salt, so unfortunately the view was not very eye-catching.

We have passed here many times but this was our first visit. The conducted tour is really interesting and the lady who showed our group around spoke perfect English after firstly explaining in Spanish. She was very knowledgeable and made the tour more enjoyable. It was good to hear about the history of the area as well as how the salt is produced. A nice touch at the end when we were given a glass of wine and 3 samples of salt with tomato slices. Whilst we were there a film set was working and it was amusing to see the false salt mounds purely for the film set !! The trip is a walking tour not recommended for those with walking difficulties, however my wife used her three wheel Walker to do most of the tour. The entrance is well sign posted and there are very clean toilet facilities, also a mall shop. Our guide Leila is very knowledgeable and stopped at certain points to show how the salt making process takes place as a result of wind and heat evaporation. At present only 15% of the salinas is in use & produces 2 million Kg of salt pa. At one time 400 people worked here the majority were women. There are 7 old windmills which used to power the water pumps which are now electric, one of the windmills is undergoing renovation and may be open this summer allowing visitors a chance to view inside. On a historical note up until 1730,s this was a port prior to the Timafaya eruptions. This site is a protected site due to migrant bird visiting the lagoon during their migration. The tour costs £10 each and is something a little different and unusual.…

Excellent fascinating and very informative tour by multilingual guide who spoke excellent English ( she had lived Barcelona, London, Shanghai etc.) followed by tasting of different salts and wine after. This place has fascinated us since our first visit 30 years ago and great to see they are developing it a little with small shop and guides. We had not pre-booked but joined three others for near private 1.5 hour tour for 12 euros. Highly recommended. Give big tip - by contrast guides at Cuevas Los Verdot barely speak English….…
