We strolled in here to find a wonderful world of information. The docent was very informative and interesting. The museum is certainly worth 20 mi utes if your time as you visit this interesting little village.

Surprising Discovery off the Beaten Track
Oct 2019
My daughter and her friend and I just happened across this interesting little museum hidden in this sleepy fishing town of Afurada not from from Via de Gaia. We were looking for a washroom and stayed to see the exhibits. There was a recent exhibition of art installations made from the found objects on shorelines...a protest against the pollution of our oceans and waterways.

It's such a well-curated museum, free to enter and interesting to walk through. Glad we stumbled upon it!

Excellent small interpretation/ museum centre
Jun 2018 • Couples
This is a small centre but the displays and presentations are of a very high quality. The care taken over the labelling, signage and use of multi media puts many larger centres to shame. Very worth a visit and as the entry is free it is a perfect way to understand more about the life of the village before moving on to enjoy lunch or dinner in the area.

Fishing and its importance well presented
Jun 2018 • Solo
Nice little museum that well presents fishing history and the meaning of fishing to this lovely village. If you have made your way to Afaruda you must visit this free museum. As Afaruda itself it is well easy going and the time needed depends on you.

Visit and show support
Sep 2017 • Friends
This is a small museum definitely worth visiting if you wish to undertand something about the importance of fishing in the village of Afurada (and similar places in Portugal) and the hardships associated to it. Even though small scale, the exhibition is clearly well thought out and beautifully arranged. When we visited the museum, there was an English-speaking gentleman who was able to answer our additional questions. I personally think that a visit to this small museum (and other small local museums) also serves as support and encouragement for local people to actively preserve local history and way of life, and to be proud of it.

An interesting museum on the history of this part of Porto.

An hour spent here will help you to understand something about cod fishing and the Portuguese people. Many of the people who fished cod in the North Atlantic were from the village of Afurada.

small museum of maritime history
May 2016 • Solo
Small museum of Afurada's maritime history, with several objects related to the sea and land work of fishermen and their families.
