The tour was interesting but the guide was a little lackluster. The tour does include two wine tasting - take one tour and stick to tasting with the others.

Worth a visit!

To be honest we chose this wine cellar because the ones we planned to go to were already fully booked. But it turned out to be a great experience. Our host, Maria, led us into world of port wine in a truly great way. The tour was exciting, full of well presented information and port wine tasting was cool. We honestly recommend this place.

Delicious and lots of fun!

We had a lovely time here -- I learned lots of useful and interesting information about Port without being overwhelmed by trivia. We had a chance to sit outside and enjoy the view of the bridge, and we were shown the antique wine-making equipment, which I found fun. Maria was such a lively, fun, and entertaining guide!

The tasting, of course, was the highlight, and I really enjoyed all three of the Ports we tried -- including a white, something I hadn't even known existed. They were sweet and rich, and the information Maria provided earlier really enhanced my appreciation of them.

Definitely worth your time.

Flight taste
Feb 2020
Skipped the tour and went straight for a flight tasting. More important for me to learn the differences between each Port and house. The prices were good. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

Story of Port
Feb 2020
Set up by Great Vacations to do a tour of Portugal. One tour was this tour at The Burmeister brewery. We were met right on time and had a small group to tour the Burmeister cellars and learn a little more about port. Our tour guide Maria conducted the tour in english. She was very informative and very welcoming of questions. When we were done we were also able to taste some of the regions best. Left feeling we had learned much more of the region historic port. Kudo to Maria our tour guide who was very informative and personable

It was a good tour but the port tasting was on par with Taylor's. It was not great. Like I said about Taylor's, they may have really good port but we weren't willing to spend more trying to find out.

Burmester Port Cellar Tour
Dec 2019 • Family
Had a most enjoyable and informative tour from Andrea. This was our second port cellar tour and by far the best. Andrea was very knowledgeable and personable and helped us to understand the nuances between the different types of port. She also taught us how to drink it properly. I highly recommend this tour!

Located immediately beside the large double bridge on the far side of downtown, Burmester is a great place to visit to learn more about port. We had a great little tour that taught us about what port is, the different kinds and what it takes to make it.

The tour was just the right amount of time, and culmulated in a tasting where we got to try a white, ruby and tawny port paired with chocolates. It was a delicious way to end things, and the shop is predictably full of port and other related gifts and souvenirs. I would not hesitate to visit and to buy some bottles!
