Nous sommes passés mi octobre 2015, et le lieu a l'air fermé... Dommage !
As of mid october 2015, it looks closed. Nobody answers at the doorbell and the place looks empty... Too bad !

We had arranged a visit with a guy who works on the winery and the first day we visited their facilities in villa nova. We tasted a lot of great Portos and we were amazed by the beauty of the old cellar. When we ended the visit we had an invitation to lunch with the owner in the winery the other day. The winery is in a magnificent location in the heart of Douro valley. We had a very good meal there that was accompanied with local wines and we get a full visit in the end of it.
The owner is a respectable person and the people around him are very friendly and helpful.
We had a great time there with all of them and we want to thank them for their great hospitality.

Terrible customer service

I was so excited to read about Niepoort in Food & Wine this month because I had a trip to Porto planned for this past weekend. My husband and I consider wine tasting a great hobby of ours and since I do not have as deep an affection for Port wines as my husband, I was looking forward to tasting Niepoort's non-fortified wines. We did not have time to go out to the Douro Valley, unfortunately, but found Niepoort's address on its website. I also checked Tripadvisor and saw that it was highly recommended as a place to go wine tasting in Vila Nova de Gaia. So, my husband and I and our two friends, trekked all the way up a steep hill to their tasting room. This is where I would love to report that the staff was friendly and welcoming, and that the experience was a highlight of our trip. Sadly, nothing could be further from the truth. We were met by the Niepoort staff who were less than excited to see us. Their tasting area looked incredible, however, they wouldn't let us have a tasting or schedule one, and wouldn't explain why. I could literally see plenty of wine glasses and plenty of wine in what appeared to be a tasting area, so I couldn't understand the reason. So, what could be do but leave, sorely disappointed? A woman who worked there told us if we wanted to taste their wine then we could purchase a bottle of it from a shop down the street. We have been to many, many vineyards and wineries all over the world, and Niepoort ranks at the very bottom in terms of customer service. Even if a tasting was not a possibility, they could have treated us with kindness and appreciation.

Worth a visit!
There are lots of Port wine cellars that we can visit in Gaia but this is one of the bests.
