Come on the train... it’s like travelling back in time!

We came in the train from Porto for the day which was comfortable enough but full of local character!

The train station then makes it even more special as it is stunning with the tiles and views over the river...

See the Douro valley from the train and enjoy the experience and save a fortune versus the tour company charges!

It is a cosy and very nice railwaystation who is entirely decorated with tiles, which depict traditional landscapes and activities in the region, especially the cultivation of vineyards. This theme was directly related to the season, which was asserted as one of the main warehouses for the transport of wine. The tiles were produced by Fábrica Aleluia de Aveiro.

Portugal has many beautiful railway stations, but Pinhao's must rank with the best. The four walls of the station are decorated with 24 blue glazed mosaics depicting scenes from the Douro Valley, especially those related to the production of port wine.

great decor on lovely old station

Its a lovely building and of particular merit were the tiling pictures of the local area . there's a wine store and tasting room in part of the building which did a pleasant ( although not cheap ) glass of local wine .

The beautiful blue and white tiles depict scenes of the wine harvest and production from over 100 years ago. A very interesting historical record that is fascinating to look at. The old-time waiting room is a step back in time. Well worth a stop.

Pinhoa was a nice town to walk in- our cruise ship stopped there for a tour, after which we had time to wander the town. The blue ceramics on the train station inside and out were awesome; something one would not have known to stop for if touring on his own. I'd drive 100 Km out of my way to see this. Our situation was that the ship was docked at least a Km away- if we took a drop off on the way back from the tour, we had to walk back to the ship. WELL worth a Km+ walk!

Happened upon this while walking on the Main Street. Worth taking photos of the interesting mural tiles depicting historic scenes of the region. Well maintained WCs.
