What a beautiful place!

Beautiful place

We went here thrice on our 6 Day stay in Madeira.

it’s a small bay very beautiful with natural outcrop of rocks and a natural underwater reserve. There is the huge statue of Christ like the one in Rio de Janerio on the top .

The best bits are the cable car, the restaurant at the bottom and the most impressive one is the Dive centre/ school there. The dive school is run by Carlos a very experienced diver where myself and my family went diving along with them. They provide a guided underwater diving which is at a very reasonable price compared to EU states and saw groupers / turtles / stingray as a highlight .I never dived in a underwater area with volcanic rocks before and this is absolutely fascinating.
The quality of gear their had was very good as well.
Garajau- we will visit again !
We also did a fair bit of snorkelling here. The beaches pebbles and rocks as there is no sound at all however garage now reserve LOL has been a memories of a beautiful place

Nature in layers
Aug 2021
When going around and being impressed by nature then this is a nice location to see nature in layers as the mountain side looks incrediable with all the layers of History.

We did the cable car down to the beach which was fun! We did wait quite a while on the cable car to bring us back up. A nice beach - very clean

Exploring

The cable car is excellent so you can walk one way on the windy road if you feel up to it. The steak and chips is to die for at the cafe there! There was plenty of seating and comfy sun loungers. We found trying to get across the large stones to dip in The sea a trial. Miss the sand but there are some beaches with imported sand at Calheta and Machita.

Nice beach
Jul 2020
Very nice place, not noisy at all (the bar music is not loud). Recommend using beach shoes since it is not sand and off course bring your snorkeling equipment.

Cristo Rei Beach

To go to the beach you should take the cable car.
You can go there also by car and that is what I did, but the road is very steep and narrow. There is no space for 2 cars (except 2 small cars like fiat 500) and if another car comes from a different direction you could have some issues.
Thre is also a nice bar and restaurant on the beach.

always wanted to
Sep 2019
We visited here as part of a Tuk Tuk tour. (seperate review) Fourth time to Madeira but first ime to here, had alweays wanted to see it up close and use the cable car.
3 euro return trip. Very good value. Beeach is large black pebbles, waters are clear, plenty of space and faciliites at the beach plus a bar.
I feel the best option is to park at the top and cable car down. But there is a twisty road down if required.

Best snorkeling on Madeira
Sep 2019 • Couples
We got a local tip to go snorkeling in Garajau and were not the least disappointed. The water is beautiful and clear, as all around Madeira. It is very easy to access the water from the pebble beach and around the eastern cliffs we saw plenty of schools of fish: parrot fish, wrasses, and other colourful species. The beach bar also serves great limpets and toasts.

Beautiful pebble beach best accessed by cable car
Jul 2019 • Couples
Lovely pebble beach with good facilities. It has free communal showers and changing rooms, toilets and a bar, The beach is clean with a beautiful view. There is plenty of room when we went there and flat concrete sun terraces to spread towels out on. The swimming area is well marked out with a lifeguard in attendance. Although there is a road access it is single lane most of the way. Looked better to leave the car at the top and take the cable car down. Gorgeous views from the cable car and friendly staff.

Hidden treasure

We got there by cable car which is really great and uncommon thing. The beach is clean, water crystal clear. It wasn't crowded and we spent really nice time there.
