About
Visitors to this romantic estate have agreed the trip was well worth it: the family is warm and hospitable, the grounds are ruggedly romantic and the wines are impressive.

Best Tour Guide Chiara
Apr 2021 • Couples
Chiara was our tour guide and she was simply the best. She made the tour worthwhile (better than the food and wine)! Thanks Chiara!!

Great experience, amazing lunch and wine tasting!
May 2021
This was a highlight of our trip to the area. Being from NY made it personally interesting as well. Maria, our guide, was fantastic and clearly loves the place. Wine was great, and lunch was fantastic!

Must do if you like wine!
May 2020 • Friends
The wine was spectacular! We enjoyed the tasting, while we weren’t very good at differentiating the subtle notes in each wine, we loved learning about the scents, flavours and process. The tour was informative and lovely to see the grounds and gorgeous views! Wonderful experience!

Great Stay and Tasting
Oct 2020
We stayed two nights at the Foresteria Casa Nova which is just a bit up the hill with a nice view of the vineyards and the neighbouring Castello. It is a charming and quaint place with a very comfortable room and we quite enjoyed our stay. Simone at the main office was extremely helpful with restaurant recommendations in town and with anything we asked about. He even arranged for us to have our breakfast delivered to us the night before we left as we had to leave early on our last morning.

We did the gastronomic specialities tour and tasting and loved it. The Castello and grounds were beautiful and the tour very interesting. But the highlight was definitely the tasting as the food and wine was delicious. A plateful of salami, cheeses and crostino was more than enough for our lunch. And the wine was very good and I'm still very much looking forward to having that last bottle we brought home that I've been saving.

The breakfast served at the Foresteria was also very good with again more wonderful salami and cheese, cappuccino and cake. We ate both dinners in the town of Grieve and had two great meals.

We also drove around several of the surrounding towns including Panzano and loved all the views in the Chianti region. Definitely recommend the tasting tour and staying here for your time in Chianti.

Great tour followed by very tasty Tuscan lunch
Sep 2020 • Couples
We arrived here and were already in love with the view. The tour is pretty interesting. You can see the barrels where the wine is stored, some of the private wines collection of the owner and more. A very typical and tasty dinner closed a very pleasant morning.

Definitely the best Chianti destination
Aug 2020 • Couples
This was by far my favorite winery. I loved the presentation of the family history and I really enjoyed all the explanations about their wine making process. Also the lunch we had there was incredibly well adjusted in order to appreciate the wines we tasted. I would definitely come back.

Disappointing/ no Charme/ sad
Aug 2020 • Couples
Overall we cannot really recommend to visit the Castello di Verrazzano - which is a pity due to the historical relevance of this name. There was no warm-hearted attitude overall and a “rush-through-feeling” during the guided tour. The wine tasting has been the worst “selling event” we’ve ever experienced. Asking for a bit more of balsamic at the table was responded with “no, only one small spoon per person”...... we wanted to try it before buying some bottles which we then obviously refrained from. Our neighbours next table where equally “shocked” and commented accordingly.

It’s really difficult to disappoint guest in general and us in particular when traveling through Tuscany/being on vacation - we believe - but somehow they managed...... We therefore recommend other wine tours in the region.

Our Recommendation to travellers: Focus on Family businesses that appreciate guests/customers - in particular during Corona times. Wine has to do with passion, love for the product and providing this product to guests.... right?

Wishing you all the best, Castello di Verrazzano. Ciao from us.

Amazing winery tour and tasting with incredible food
Jul 2020
We were lucky enough to do the wine tour, tasting and dinner this week. First up, amazing time to go, as there are not many people which makes the experience even more special.
We stayed at their farmhouse, which itself we thought was not anything special, but has a great location near the castle with amazing views from the shared garden. We walked to the castle, which took about 20-25 minutes. It is a walk uphill but doable if you are fit, and we wanted to enjoy the wine without worrying about driving.
Firstly, the view when you arrive at the castle is incredible over the surrounding countryside. We were given our tour by Maria, and were lucky enough to have the tour just us two. Maria was incredibly friendly and informative, telling us about the history of the castle and giving us a tour around the grounds before going into the cellar. The tour is very indepth, going over everything from the different soils where different wines grow, to explaining exactly what Chianti Classico means. We also had a glass of their lovely sparkling wine on the terrace with more stunning views.
After the tour we had dinner and the wine. You have 4 red wines here, each paired with a different course. Our advice to anyone doing the dinner is to have a very small lunch! All the food was incredible. My girlfriend was vegetarian, which we let them know in advance, and the kitchen was able to cater for her at every course. We were so pleased that it was not simple vegeterian food, but the kitchen had really tried to make something special for her, and succeeded. My food was also amazing, with a wide selection of italian hams, sausage, wild boar (which is reared on site in their woodland) pasta, steak, etc. Every bite was so good, but I was too full to be anywhere near finishing it! We enjoyed all the wines and even got to try a glass of their experimental new wine aged in chestnut barrels.
Final course is cake, biscuits and a glass of their dessert wine which was surprisingly tasty (not usually a fan) and a coffee. The meal is finished up with a shot of Grappa, not to our taste but still a bonus! The staff were extremely attentive and helpful.
Be aware that if you are deciding to walk to and from the castle, by the time you leave it will be dark. We were ok with this, using a torch on our phone, but maybe not to everyone's liking. Most other people drove back down, as it was only a 2 minute drive.
In the morning before leaving we also had an incredible breakfast that was included with the cost of the farmhouse. Huge selection on offer and kept as full up for most of the day!
Overall if you are in Tuscany and looking for a friendly winery to try some Chianti wines and Tuscan food, we cannot recommend this enough. If you can go before the crowds return, even better, but I am sure the experience is still amazing even so.
Thank you Maria and the rest of the staff at Castello di Verrazzano!

Excellent tour and Lunch
Mar 2020
Went to the castle last week. Because of travel fears we were the only people for the tour. Maria was wonderful and the tour and lunch were great! Such a beautiful place. We felt very safe and a lot of locals were enjoying the restaurant as well. Chianti is safe!!
