My favorite site in two weeks of touring sicily. a must see to look at awesome mosaics depicting myths, hunting for capture not kill and sports to name a few. the structral achievements are also incredible from structural design, hot water heating and steam, water supply and waste removal and much more. still lots to uncover but what is there... My wife and I visited the Villa Romana del Casale near Piazza Armerina during a two-week vacation in Sicily. It is an UNESCO World Heritage Site and you can see why – it’s absolutely amazing. The Villa is huge and although no one knows who it belonged to, it was obviously someone with lots of money, such as a senator.... More

The mosaics are absolutely stunning, but the queue management on the day we visited was horrendous. Be prepared for long delays as groups unnecessarily block the narrow passage ways whilst listening to their guides!

We arrived at lunch time which may be why we seemed to beat the crowd. We had read up on the basics in advance, and found the signs enough to appreciate the scale and nature of the villa and the amazing mosaics. The large hunt makes you appreciate the reach and the power of the Romans. The "bikini" girls were... More

This place is a little off the beaten track but it just punts all the others ones in to the corner - and I should know as I've done a few. The detail, completeness & amount is un believable. This will mosaic you out!! Set aside a good 2 hours & immerse yourself in the splendour of this place. Take... More

Only 15 minutes by car, this archaeological site is a must to see for every history lover. The place is still in the restoration stage, but most of it is accessible to the public.

Lots of restoration going on here, but you can still get a great view into this once great villa. The mosaics are exquisite and many are remarkably well preserved. It's hard to imagine what kind of artists and craftsman existed at that time to create such magnificent works of art on the floors, not to mention the paintings on the... More

We spent several hours here with Alessandro, our guide from Tours By Locals who was fantastic. The villa is an amazing look back into time and get a feel for what a grand home would be like. Most likely it was an imperial residence but it's not certain. What is certain is that it was very important and the mosaics... More

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this villa contains a large numbers of well-preserved ancient Roman mosaics. They are colourful and beautiful, depicting many different scenes, such as hunting, fishing, mythological, animals and then there are the famous Bikini Girls. Worth a trip.
