Came for the USS Monitor, but was dazzled by the small boat collection esp. the Herreshoff. Larry Ellison's Oracle America's Cup winner is parked here, I hope they can raise some money because they are gonna need a bigger building! Nice grounds with an extensive walking trail around a tidal lake.

Amazing history of Hampton Roads and how the war affected this area. I would definitely recommend setting aside a few hours to really take in everything!

Had not been for several years. I was so impressed with the quality of the displays and the thoroughNess of the information. We were there 3 hours and did not see the whole museum. The children that were there seemed to enjoy the participatory activities. Highly recommend.

I had the opportunity to tour the Mariners' Museum in Newport News, Virginia for the first time on February 9, 2017. The museum was very interesting, all of the exhibits were well done, and the docents were very knowledgeable. Overall a great museum!

This is a beautiful area of trails up to 5 miles for hiking, walking, and jogging. Dogs are allowed. There are benches along the way if you want to just sit & take it all in or rest. There are bridges & areas to go out over the river to view & be out of the way of people on... More

This is a truly wonderful museum, mostly of powered craft, but with a small and interesting sail exhibit. There is also a display of the most wonderful model ships. Above all, however, is the Monitor exhibit with theater, full-scale replica and original turret in restoration. In addition there are both military and civilian ship exhibits. The museum has beautiful displays... More

I spent way to much time in the civil war section. Monitor and the CSS Virginia. Great section dedicated to ship design.

The trail is a great place to run or walk or just take in the natural areas. The museum outside areas are the best.
