day trip
Jun 2021 • Friends
I went with my family on a day trip to the ironworks village, which was a bit similar to Fiskars Village. There were cafes, restaurants and alpacas in Ruukki village. The place was beautiful. Everyone should go there.

Worth to visit

A tiny ironwork village next to the Teijo national park. Lovely old houses, nice restaurants and boutiques. A fun way to spend a summers day.

Nice stop over with family
Jul 2018 • Family
We had a nice quite spontaneous stop over in Mathildedal and the charming b&b Sypressi. We got a good map and tips on what to see from Sypressi and enjoyed just walking around visiting shops and looking at alpacas that are gazing in different spots in this little town. We also had nice lunch in cafe Mathildedal though due to wasps we couldn’t eat outside.

Would recommend this for a day trip!

A paradise nearby the water
Dec 2016
This nice place is located in a small town, nearby the ocean and a national park. The room is comfortable, the shower is good and the breakfast very charming and tasty. Talking to the owners and staff is very pleasant. They gave us precious tips the make a barbecue in the park and rowing in the lake. The bikes, available in the hotel, make the trip an incredible plunge into the spirit of the wild.

Has probably seen better days
Sep 2016 • Family
The idea is a lovely one but the houses and their surrounding could be maintained better. Compared to Fiskars this was rather dissappointing.

Worth a stop
Jul 2016 • Couples
There used to be several ironworks around in South-Western Finland. Some of them, like Taalintehdas on Kimito Island, made it into the 21st Century, but a lot of them closed down in the 1950s or 60s. Mathildedal is not as known as Fiskars or Billnäs, which have turned into art & design villages and that have turned into tourist destinations, but the resent efforts to keep Mathildedal alive has paid off and it's absolutely worth a stop if you're in the area. The village itself is charming and right in the center you find a small pub-café where you can have a taste the beer from the micro brewery next door. There's also a small shop selling the local beer as well as bread from the bakery. From here you turn down towards the harbour and on the way you pass Mathildedal Manor with Alpacas strolling around. The old ironworks is down near the harbour and here you find a restaurant, some shops (one selling Alpaca Products), a museum and a cozy café. The museum is free of charge.

Hidden treasure
Jul 2016 • Friends
A lovely small village in Southwestern Finland. Fantastic for nature lovers with excellent marked pathways in the forest and round the lake, seaside with marina, small brewery, a nice restaurant and a couple of cafeterias, excellent accommondation possibilities from quality hotels to B&B's. Well worth the trip.

It was really interesting to walk around the local village. We stayed at the local hotel, ate at the local restaurant and sampled the local craft beers at the pub. All within walking distance of each other

Must see place in Salo area.
Feb 2016 • Family
Ironworks in Mathildedal (Mathildedahlin ruukkitehtaat) are definitely place to be if you are in vicinity of Salo. There are nice restaurants and coffee places, shops and exhibitions which tells you the history of making iron. Also there is a home brewery where you can buy different brews of ale. One speciality is shop that makes and sells clothes from alpaca wool. There's also few alpacas in corral where you can wonder the strange animal.
