The Iglesia de la Merced, or, Church of Mercy, is a charming and beautiful old church with a clock tower/observatory, accessible by a steep and tight spiral staircase. It's worth the climb, as one is rewarded with 360 degree views of the rooftops of the...More

La merced is a church 5 minutes from the city center and you have the best view on everything - the cathedral, the volcano, the lake and the city itself. The sunset is an amazing time to go there, great place to take pictures. hahaha...More

This was a pretty cathedral that gave you the feel of going back in time. For about a dollar you can climb to the bell tower and enjoy great views of Granada.

Loved the view of the city from the bell tower. It is truly remarkably picturesque and compact. Lovely parks and walks. Enjoyed this place and a good city with Byron, an excellent local guide.

We have gone at least a dozen times but have stopped going due to the attraction rarely being open. The stairs and rail really could use a new coat of paint.

While the church closes at 5, so you can't quite be there at sunset, if you go as late as possible in the day, the sky is really pretty, and the lighting is perfect. It's only $1 to climb the stairs to the top, but...More

Beautiful views of the city from the bell tower for only $1. I was there twice, and am glad i went back the second time for better lighting in the afternoon.

No one tells you that you have to pay $1/pp to climb the scary, extra narrow, spiraling stairs to get to the top, but you get the best rooftop views of Granada, seeing clearly to Ometepe on a sunny day.

We visited around 5pm and the view from the tower was lovely. Worth the dollar entry fee. Pretty small staircase up though so hope you don't meet anyone going the other way! Beautiful church too, especially the facade.

Well, the church will most likely be open since they offer mass on Christmas day. As for the bell tower I am not quite sure if it will be open or not. However, if it is for $1 you can go to the top and see a spectacular view... More
