I was expecting more water falls as it just looked like some rapids. The park itself was great. There were horses, canoe's, fishing and biking. The receipt for the $5 parking pass had a 10% off coupon for the store.

Hiking is easy with not much grade, viewing the New River a real pleasure. Biking, hiking and horse back riding

We came down to ride on the New River Trail. The first day we started in the park. There is a very nice gift shop by the parking lot where people can buy t-shirts and souvenirs.

Great brief visit here Sunday and was very impressed with the facilities and activities. We'll definitely come back when we have more time. Especially like the kayak and canoe rentals available.

That will depend on how far you want to go and whether you are doing a round trip or need to be transported to your start point. You might want to check google maps to see the street view and check out the scenery.

I don't recall seeing any kayaks on the river. Perhaps you can check with the state park.

Yes, but along the trail from the main store up to the Shot Tower, there was a lot of poison ivy just off the path, as well as places where our little one picked up a ticks. I would make sure to keep your dog from straying... More
