We were not aware of this site, but saw the sign while traveling between Belle Grove & Stratford Hall. Since we had been to Mt. Vernon day before, we figured getting some background on Washington's early years would be nice. Stopped at the Visitor Center...More

Went on a Sunday, midday, and saw only a handful of other people. The grounds were immaculate and include a replica house, barn, workshop, cookhouse, garden, visitor center, a few trails, stunning scenery of the Potomac, and farm animals (cows and pigs). The highlight was...More

Thank you so much for taking time to comment on your recent trip to George Washington Birthplace! You pointed out two visitor favorites about this place: the scenery and the farm animals. The views of Popes Creek are pretty darn good, too, and we also...More

Was nearby on business and decided to find something to do for a few hours. If you are in the D.C. area you must stop and see this historic national park. The guided tour at the memorial house was the best tour I have ever...More

Thanks so much for leaving feedback about your visit and for pointing out what we feel (aside from being the birthplace of GW) is one of the very best reasons to visit---quiet. The peace and tranquility of the site offer a refreshing getaway from some...More

This spot is kind of off-the-beaten-path, but it was worth the excursion to George Washingon's birthplace. It is a beautiful area on the edge of the Potomac River. They give guided tours of a replica of Washington's childhood home. I learned a few things about...More

Since this is a national monument, there is no admission charge. A park ranger will give you a tour after a short video describing the site. Washington's father moved the family to Mt. Vernon when George was three. The family were successful farmers, and George...More

Unfortunately, we arrived at the monument about two minutes after closing, so I can't comment on the visitor's center. However, it was very much worth being able to drive around the property and especially to go to the cemetery, which was beautifully maintained. My husband...More

We rode our bicycles all over the park. Everything is very well marked. Not at all crowded, and the park rangers who give the tours are extremely knowledgeable. They continually study history to provide a great visitor experience. Would definitely recommend.

Great free historic site. The grounds include none of the original structure or buildings, but are done in period. Nice setting on Pope's creek off the Potomac. Took about 1 hour to tour and was a nice stop in the Northern Neck. Would have been...More

Thank you so much for your feedback! Please check our website for a schedule of special events during which we have folks in period costume engaging in activities such as blacksmithing, spinning/weaving, gardening, soap making and open-hearth cooking.
