More
The Captain Timothy Hill House was built circa 1800 and is the oldest known house on Chincoteague Island. Originally built to have a wooden chimney...the replication of that chimney is now in place. Listed on The National Register of Historic Places and The Virginia Landmarks Register in 2011...a visit to this house is a step back in time to the early life on the island. Open to the public during the summer season with tours on Fridays 1-3 PM and additionally Wednesdays in July 1-3 PM. Other times by appointment. Admission is free but donations are greatly appreciated.

You can see how a house this well built would last a long time, I know it's not the original but it is built so much better than modern houses.

This is a neat old house and a nice restoration. If you can, go when the house is open to see the inside. The restoration is very well done and worthy of all of the recognition that the owners have received. It is also worth...More

This house is so incredible. The restoration of this home is so important for the history of Chincoteague. Just walking up to it takes you back.

This house is a very interesting structure! It is a one-room house with a bed, table, and fireplace. On the outside boards, the owner scratched a picture of a sailing ship. This was probably the ship that he was Captain of back in the early...More

Located on Main Street (North-East of the bridge) is the renovated Timothy Hill House. One just pulls over onto the roadside and can explore the exterior of the small house and grounds with pond. Interesting architecture and very charming site. Hope Chincoteague will preserve more...More

We visited this house during the Holiday Home Tour and were not disappointed. The house was an authentic picture of life in times past. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. We had a great visit.

We were only able to see this from the outside as we were there at the end of the season. It is located in a very pretty area.

Adding this site to your island visit won't require much time, but it was an interesting bit of island history. From here, we continued our drive on the north side of the island. Free and on the main drag.
