This historic tavern is just down the road from Monticello and offers a Southern fare lunch buffet of chicken, pulled pork, coleslaw, green beans, beets, mashed potatoes and gravy and more for $17.95. Coffee and dessert are extra. Check their website for specials and coupons. When you first enter you go directly to the buffet and get your food then... More

This is an interesting place to eat.The rooms in the main part of the restaurant are very rustic and there was a nice fire in the fireplace - very enjoyable on the cold, raw day when we ate there. The food is pretty good, with the fried chicken being the best of what they offer on the buffet. The servers... More

We stopped here to get a cool drink and ended up having their delicious buffet. The old tavern building was just like being in olden days. The staff were appropriately dressed and the buffet menu (served on pewter plates) was very good.

The historic eating establishment outside Charlottesville is like going back to Colonial times. The food is genuine southern cooking. The staff are dressed in period attire. On a very cold winter day, we particularly enjoyed the warmth of the fireplace. Don't miss the General Store at the base of the parking lot - particularly the second floor. A great find.

Plentiful Buffet lunch of of Southern food - peanut soup, black eyed peas, grits etc. Good homely rib-sticking stuff in an old building, atmospheric and fun. Pleasant staff, ample parking.

The first thing you have to know about historic Michie Tavern is it isn't historic. The Virginia Historic Landmark that is located at 683 Thomas Jefferson Parkway in Albemarle County, Virginia, near Charlottesville was actually established in 1784 by Scotsman William Michie about 17 miles down the road in Earlysville. The tavern served as the social center of the community... More

Stopped here for lunch after touring Monticello. The interior appeared to be of the period of the early colonial times. The buffet had a good selection of vegetables, two types of chicken and some pulled pork. Vegetable soup was very good. There are biscuits and cornbread, too. Water is included with the meal. For an extra fee, dessert and drinks... More

Stopped at the tavern on our way back from Monticello as we saw it on the way in. The building alone makes you want to find out more about the history. We had no idea of what to expect but it was a fun visit with servers dressed in period costumes, the history of the building and the cute shops... More

This was the first time I've been to Michie Tavern and it was a nice experience. The tavern itself is steeped in history and its nice to enjoy a piece of that with friends. If you are an American Revolutionary Period history buff, this will definitely tickle you. The food was a buffet style arrangement with a very limited variety... More
