Michie Tavern has a magical setting on a hillside overlooking Charlottesville on the way to Monticello. Built in 1794, the gift shop is next to the ordinary on the eastern end of the structure and is filled with gifts, souvenirs and reproductions. Virginia wines, beers and ciders are available, along with books, colonial era home accessories and more, all in a... More

Whenever I'm in the Charlottesville area I make a beeline to Michie Tavern. They have fantastic fried chicken, a large selection vegetables, and desserts. It's a buffet, and they have staff that will ask if you would like more of anything and they will bring it to you. Michie's is a good place to bring to whole family. If you... More

Delicious food, great attentive staff. This is southern cooking served cafeteria style but once you choose your table, the servers continue to wait on you and regularly check on your needs. The rustic log house setting is perfect.

We were on our way to ski, decided to stop off at carter mountain, only to find it closed, but just down the road we found michie's. The tavern was excellent, rustic, southern home cooking, just cute all around. We took a self guided tour, and walked through the shops. Great place.

Michie Tavern is really two places (restaurant and historical building/gift shop) joined into one large place. I will review the restaurant portion of the two. Each place has a separate entrance. As you prepare to enter the restaurant portion (which is what people think of when you say Michie Tavern) you are greeted by a person in colonial garb. Once... More

We have eaten here several times. We are never disappointed on the quality and quantity of food. Setting is an old colonial tavern with many things to see.

We had a business retreat in the area and Michies Tavern hosted our business luncheon. The food was spectacular as well as the service and ambiance. Wonderful place to visit for any occasion.

Near Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. 18th century southern fare buffet of fried chicken and other delectables. The food was delicious and served by staff in period attire. 2nds (and 3rds) are bought around by the servers. Themed shops are housed in restored structures and meal includes a self guided tour of tavern life of the 1700's.

Excellent, don't miss out on the fried chicken and sit in the old tavern! We broke up our day visiting Thomas Jeffersons Monticello by having lunch here. Best decision.

We had just been to Thomas Jefferson's home at Monticello & thought we would try the Michie Tavern for lunch. We received a very warm welcome even before entering. This place will take you back to 1776 if you close your eyes. The food choices a plentiful & you must have a pint with your lunch.
