Great Winery outside of Charlottesville, VA

We were doing 2 days of wine touring in Charlottesville and stopped in. Great wine and excellent staff. They also were dog friendly so we could bring our dogs with us.

Visited on the r commendation of a friend. Beautiful setting and one of the best pouters I've met. While am couple of the wines were quaffable, overall I'd say they were just ok. After visiting Jefferson and Blenheim, I was just under whelmed with these wines.

This little place is semi "off the beaten path" with some of the traditional wine trails in Virginia. But make sure you put this place on your list. I am fortunate I live in the area and try to visit when I can. I cannot say enough great things about First Colony. I love ALL their wines. I specifically find... More

Both red and white wines were amazing, especially the 2015 Lemberger and 2014 Claret. Sit back, relax and enjoy the unique thatch roof and rustic architure of this winery. Service was awesome even though it was very crowded.

A bit of an effort to get there but well worth the trip. Absolutely beautiful on a fall day. Smaller in size than most wineries, but that's a very good thing. Small size means small crowds which gives the staff the opportunity to present a very personal, very knowledgeable wine tasting of some excellent wines, all made from Virginia-grown grapes.... More

One of the southern-most vineyards in the Charlottesville area, we arrived at 11am (opening time) on Sunday and had the place to ourselves until we left about noon. Nice chance to chat with the staff and sample good wine. Bought several cases. Reclaimed wood floors and wooden dining table from Civil War era provide historic ambiance. Highly recommended.

We recently stopped here for a wine tasting. The person who did our tasting was very knowledgeable. He was friendly. The tastings gave us a variety of choices. We would recommend this winery and we would purchase wine from here again.

We stopped by First Colony after a visit to Monticello earlier that day. Our itinerary that afternoon included Trump (very good), Michael Shaps (also very good), and finally First Colony. Tasting room - the tasting room was nice, but not overly large or fancy. There was plenty of room to accommodate everyone. The young man pouring for us was friendly... More

My wife and I visited 6 wineries in the area over the weekend and we particularly liked First Colony because it was a little smaller, the people were very nice and the wine was very good and less expensive than some of the other wineries. It is well worth the stop.

Friendly people, they are making very good wine now. I'm an ex-Virginian who treks to VA yearly to go get wine-was there when they first opened and it was so-so. Now it's a destination
