Close to 10,000 beetles make up the 3 by 4 star; a bug quilt. Get up close to a Kodiak and a Moose all magnificently displayed in their Victorian glory. A collection from from the times of HG Wells, Jules Verne and Charles Darwin, the mind on display from another century. The 19th Century, the Victorian era, was full of... More

A cool, funky version of your typical natural history museum. A huge assortment of disheveled taxidermied animals downstairs and some odd collections upstairs like art made of dead beetles (my favorite) old school books, and Egyptian artifacts. The only downfall to my trip here was a very rude clerk who basically ruined our visit. We parked in front to go... More

St. Johnsbury is off the beaten track, but if you are in the area, you should definitely check out this museum. It was built more than 100 years ago and hasn't been updated for the most part. It is an archetypal 19th century wealthy industrialist's personal collection housed in an architecturally fascinating building. It has a main floor and a... More

The museum has thousands of animals, mostly small critters and birds. There are a few large ones, too (bears, moose, etc.). The second floor has lots of artifacts from early American settlements, Native American cultures, Japan, etc. It isn’t very large, but the admission is cheap ($9.00 on the day I went), so it is worth the trip if you... We listen every morning to the "Eye on the Sky" weather forecast so a trip to the Fairbanks was a must. Unfortunately, we didn't have a chance to see the special exhibit, but we did see the lovely planetarium show which happened to be about nebula. The Fairbanks is someplace we will come back to so we can see more.

The Fairbanks Museum bills itself as a natural history museum but it is so much more. Just the architecture alone sets it apart from its peers. It is like stepping back in time as you wander through the soaring hall replete with balconies filled with quaint exhibits that look like they haven't been changed in 100 years. My favorite will... Second time we been here. Find the exhibits fascinating. Lots of birds, who knew there were so many. Bug art, the most fascinating of all. The building itself is beautiful and the many exhibits there are quite diverse. If you are in the area, you MUST make a point to stop in and check it out.

This museum was created by the son of a wealthy entrepreneur who travelled the world and continued to expand his Victorian "Cabinet of Curiousities" until it outgrew the cabinet, then outgrew a room in his mansion, then eventually he build an entire building to house it. It is now a museum that is fascinating because of the content from a... More

Quite a varied collection of history. 2500 different mounted birds. More hummingbirds than you have ever seen. Fairbanks, of Fairbanks scales, was very inquisitive and collected things from all parts of the world.
