Stopped to browse the store and enjoy a bite of lunch at Hero's Welcome. Store inventory includes kitchen gadgets, toys, food items, including ice cream, Vermont souvenirs, etc. Deli has a variety of sandwiches including the Bernie Sanders. We shared a sandwich with chips, which...More

We stopped at Hero's Welcome General Store for fresh-made BLTs, roast beef sandwiches, and iced tea on a scenic drive through the magnificent Champlain Islands of northeastern Vermont. We are "locals" who wanted to treat our out-of-state visitors to a leisurely drive with a quick...More

Have lived in the islands for 33years. Both Shore Acres and North Hero House have unique and enjoyable qualities. I often reserve rooms at both for friends who visit. North HeroHouse just has some wonderful rooms including historic suites and beautiful lakefront views in most....More

Thanks for writing about North Hero but I think you meant to review the hotel. We're the general store.

Hero's Welcome never disappoints and while you have a short wait for your sandwich (or breakfast items) the store is filled with things you never knew you needed and everything you do need. So much fun to browse! Get all your local news here too.

This is a very nice general store with lots of interesting merchandise. The restaurant, however, could be much better. First, its mostly a deli but when we visited it was very crowded and we had to wait a very long time for our food. What's...More

Hello John! Thank you for the compliments on the rest of the store...in fact we are not a restaurant at all! We are indeed a deli, and a bakery, and a café. As for seating, unfortunately the State of Vermont has very particular rules about...More

Wife and i have enjoyed trekking to North Hero just to eat at Hero's Welcome for many years. Spent an anniversary 2012 in the Inn next door when the lake was flat and slick as glass - the locals said it was a rarity. Another...More

We went for lunch in the rain and the folks behind the counter were pleasant and helpful in getting our group a table. The sandwich bread was not gourmet by any means, and though the helpings were plentiful, they were pretty average quality all round....More

Very nice store and location with beautiful views of the lake. They also have some pretty cool "gift" merchandise, although on the pricey side. My major complaint was our sandwiches. They had like two slices of meat on them and they were not cheap either!...More

We're sure sorry to hear you weren't satisfied! Groceries and food in Vermont are often perceived as pricey compared to other areas but thousands of people adore our sandwiches. We heard a similar complaint last week about cheese though so we will be investigating this...More

We stopped because of the great reviews. We weren't disappointed with the roast beef sandwich but I was disappointed with my veggie one. There was supposed to be Vermont cheddar cheese and hummus in it with pickles, mustard, tomato, green pepper in a tortilla. I...More

What a thoughtful, detailed and helpful review! We really appreciate it! We do wish that you'd said something about your veggie sandwich though...we make close to 800 sandwiches a day and it's possible something went wrong. We certainly don't feel the need to save pennies...More
