Great store in a great spot. They've got a little bit of everything. The quality of the meats and produce is high. Good local beer selection. Can't beat a morning coffee on the porch, overlooking Silver Lake or a summer afternoon with an ice cream cone.

This place is the best! You really could not hope for a more charming place to eat breakfast, lunch, or ice cream. The store is extremely well stocked with groceries and is staffed by smiling, helpful people.

My daughter and I stopped at this incredibly historic store (opened in 1832) after a great day at Silver Lake Park across the street. We both ordered freshly made sandwiches, got some homemade snacks, and even tried their ice cream store which is a sit down parlor inside the store. AMAZING quality of food and it is run by folks... Located in the center of town, right across from Silver Lake, good stuff to eat, other necessities, and an expansive porch to watch the world go by....

Our first visit to Vermont included stopping by BGS for sandwiches to go. Great choices, but be sure to check their hours of food service. Delicious food to take and enjoy at nearby Silver Lake! No other take-out option in the immediate area other than snack bar at the lake, but BGS does not take advantage of this. Read history... More

Even though I live in Town, The BGS is the perfect place for a breakfast or a terrific lunch…get Lunch to go and sit by the lake. Three days ago I had a great Ruben and watched a family of Geese with 6 Goslings not more than 20 feet from me….the lake is the best, bar none and so was... More

Recommend coming to the Barnard General Store for lunch. Great sandwiches and salads. Recommend sitting at the counter or go across the street and sit at a bench to enjoy the view of the lake.

BGS is a microcosm of what makes Vermont the great and unique place it is to this day. The atmosphere cannot be beat and the chili/soup/sandwich selection is excellent. Stopping there when out for a drive is always a must-do and like any true General Store, they also carry all the necessities one might need.

I was visiting the Maple Leaf Inn up the street and stopped to pick up some local beer on the way out of town. I wound up spending $37 and the gentleman behind the counter was helpful when it came to my choices. I'm still in the process of trying all three kinds but, so far I'm impressed with my... More
