This is a long hot trail in the summer, recommend umbrella and lots of water. The roughly 3 mile in and 3 mile out is 75% on deep sandy trail, with very spotty shade. That said this will always be a memorable hike as the...More

This is a family favorite. We (especially my kids 7, 6, 3, 1) love hiking up the creek. It is shallow and wide with trees that reach overhead making you feel like your going through a watery tunnel. You can spot fish rushing past your...More

The very cool waterfall at trail's end is the reward at the end of this hike. Kids like to take a dip in the pond under the waterfall. Only minus is that about half of trail is in deep sand so if you dislike that,...More

Very nice 3 mile round trip hike. Gets a little hot but half way to the falls, there is a creek where you can cool off and get wet. It definitely helps. Bring plenty of water. It's a must. Coming back is easier, especially if...More

The Campground at the trailhead was full so we stayed in the Boulder mts. We arrived at the trail next morning and began our hike at 8am. All tracks indicated we were the first ones that day. Just so you know, the lead hiker finds...More

Absolutely beautiful hike. It is fairly long- but the falls are totally worth it. I took my 11, 8, and 6 year old- and it was a hefty distance for the 6 year old. But if your kids are sturdy and you have the patience...More

First off, there are two Calf Creek Falls hikes, upper and lower. My son and I did the upper hike, which does have quite a descent in the beginning portion. I have a surgically repaired knee, and was able to do the descent with little...More

What a great sight! The hike in is moderate due to the fine sand, but otherwise a fairly easy hike to do. Parents had little kids with them and they all managed fine on a 85+ degree day. The falls are refreshing so do not...More

This is a crazy amazing hike. There is little to no grade but also little to no shade. You can rush and power hike to the falls but if you take your time and look around as you go there are hidden gems to be...More

The hike of a lifetime. Great destination at the end of the trail, a stunning waterfall and cool pool. Great for bird watching, geology and exploring the unique desert environment. Gets very hot and you're fully exposed by late morning. Take lots of water...especially with...More

Do we take or wear a swimsuit? (Meaning, is there some rocks or somewhere to duck out of sight to change at the Falls?). Or, will the water be too cold in the end of May?

I would like to find out about tent camping somewhere in the vicinity of Calf Creek, the chances of getting a spot, or the possibility of reserving a campspot.

There are 14 campsites right there. Looks like you can write, call or email to inquire about the site. Not sure if they take reservations, or if it's first-come, first-serve. Hope this helps! Escalante Field Station PO Box... More
