It was a good riding length and we watched the sunset from a small plateau. I would probably ride at their other stables next time. Start of ride too close to road, did get some of the local mining history though. Thunderstorms were rolling in at end and we sauntered back instead of making haste.

My associate and I participated in the 1/2 Day With Lunch tour on July 6th 2021 with Dakota as our guide. We had already conducted a multi-day tour of the Big Bend National Park side of the landscape. During our journey is was clear we where witnessing yet another facet of this unique geographical region. Dakota was very informative on educating us on the local floral as we passed examples on horseback. He also was knowledgeable on the history of the area. The State Park side of the region was well worth exploring via horseback. During out lunch break, Dakota brought us to a scenic canyon and set us up with a cold cut lunch and a variety of vegetables and meats. We took a brief hike, around 15-20 minutes down the canyon while Dakota set everything up for lunch. Upon return we were very please with the spread. Plenty food to fill, we didn't finish. The horses were very personal and well trained. I highly recommend to request Dakota as your guide. -Nick Q.

We did the half day with lunch ride and it was so much fun. Armando was an excellent guide and lots of fun. We also did a 2 hour sunset ride with Shelby and she was great! I highly recommend this company.

We had an amazing time riding horses and the views were spectacular. Our guide was amazing and kept us laughing the whole time. He also provided a great lunch for us. The ride could not have been any better.

We rode the Rio Grande Stables 1/2 Day Taos Ride yesterday. We’ve ridden (and been wranglers) fairly extensively in the Southwest. I’d rate this a nice southwest mountain ride with somewhat rocky, hilly but not too steep mountain trails through dense pine forest and across mountain streams and past mountain meadows. Which means a delightful, beautiful ride! Our horses and mules were well cared for, capable, and well mannered. Tack was likewise in good condition and well suited for the continuous climb and descent - breast collars and britching straps where necessary. Our wrangler matched us with appropriate mounts - my wife and I on a good mule and horse, respectively, and the other riders on appropriate horses for somewhat less experienced riders. Our wrangler got us to the lunch site and back down again with no issues - even though we finished riding in an afternoon monsoon shower that left us all wet, despite the ponchos we were provided! However, if you expect the “world class picnic of roasted chicken, artisanal cheeses, black bean and quinoa salad, etc.” be prepared to lunch instead on no chicken, bean salad, pepperoni and cheddar cheese on ritz, and trail mix. And, if you ride during the summer monsoon season, be prepared for rain!
