This is a wonderful look into life during the later 1800s when life was much simple. The homes were built with stone and lumber, then parts were added over the years as the families grew. There are many animals roaming the grounds and the staff shows how they took care of them.

The farmstead is on the self-guided driving tour that takes you to the Texas White House, etc. People in period dress provide information of life in the area when LBJ was a young boy. Interesting and informative. Worth the time.

This living history farm is probably the highlight of a visit to LBJ State Park. It is an easy .2 mile walk from the visitor center to the farm. The farm is a representation of a 1915 era German farm in rural Texas. The farmhouse, barn, outbuildings, crops and livestock gave us a real feel for what life was like... More

If you are going to the LBJ Ranch, it is worth a few minutes to stop by the JOHNSON Family's neighbor's homestead. It is a very interesting working farm. The hosts are very nice and interesting. Two fat houses from the late eighteenth century and the early twentieth century.

We went with another couple and were able to go on one of their wine tours. Very informative and interesting; highly recommended if you are interested in seeing how the wine is processed.

Just to see how people lived and cooked back in the day and had farm animals and actual vegetable farms is amazing. The ladies preparing food for the grounds workers is nice in that the workers don't have to leave to get food and they get to beat home made fresh baked bread. The farm is part of the LBJ... More

Lots of neat things at the farm-home tour-animals, gardens, kids will love it. They have the authentic famhouse and barn with all the cattle, chickens, and other animals. Sometimes they have a blacksmith there and everyone is in costume and gives tours of the farm. There is also a gift shop at the state park and a movie and this... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Sauer-Beckmann Farm. The staff is dressed in period clothing and were so helpful and informative. Our group ask lots of questions and they knew the answers to everyone. It is also a very hands on experience and a great area for the kiddos to run around.

A great experience to show suburbanite kiddos what life in the Texas Hill Country was like on a historic farm and ranch. Very cool to see the hens, roosters and farm animals in a working farm environment. When combined with the LBJ NPS visit and tour of the Texas White House - this a is great, educational afternoon.

See life 100 years ago - how families thrived without electricity in the hot and humid Texas weather! Visit to see the original stone structures, hand built by the German-Texan families in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Amazing what they had to do to survive - preserving foods such as milk, fruits and vegetables - while growing/selling cotton and... More
