Ila Loetscher, the "Turtle Lady of South Padre Island", originally formed our organization to save the Kemp's ridley sea turtle in 1977. Now we are a sea turtle hospital with a mission to rehabilitate and release any injured sea turtles, increase awareness concerning their safety and habitat, and assist with conservation efforts for all sea turtle species. We are funded by donations, grants and gift shop proceeds--

We found this very interesting and learned a lot about turtles. They also have turtles on display that cannot be returned to the wild. It is very informative and worth going to.

A sanctuary for injured sea turtles, run on donations and the love of volunteers. A must-see for anyone visiting SPI. Educational and inspirational.

What a great family experience and lots of learning. Glad the kids were able to see how we affect the sea turtles by daily decisions. Loved the team work environment to make a change in this world. Very impressed and grateful for all they do!

We visited the place, it was not very crowed and the visit was very informative and also it moved us very much to see the turtles been taken care of. My kids were amazed to see the turtles from the traditional aquarium to the actual on how they face issues.

I adore sea turtles and they do amazing work here, but the place is a little "run down". I am excited for them to get a new facility. May have to come back when that is done. Staff was great, gift shop staff were a riot. Good time, just needs some updates.
