Not all birds are the same. The birds you see here are not the kind you see in a city. You will seagulls, pelicans, ducks and herons to name a few. On the side area you can find butterflies, hummingbirds and native sparrows, black birds maybe a bunting. If you're lucky the alligator might make a appearance. It is peaceful... More

Two of us visited this place, she is the birder... me, I simply enjoy the outdoors. This place offered us both lots of what we enjoy. Entry fee of six dollars gives you access to a beautiful boardwalk through a variety of habitats where you can see many birds. The center it's self has a gift shop, an informative movie... More

I love this place! If you like birds, this is the place for you to see quite a variety of birds. Love all the kinds of herons, the ducks of all kinds, and the amazing and beautiful spoonbills. There are alligators, turtles and fish to entertain you as you walk the boardwalks.

There is so much to see and learn when visiting! They have a nature center/museum, a lookout that you can climb up, boardwalks that take you to various parts of the outside area where you can see the wildlife, including an alligator. Bring your binoculars. We could have stayed longer, but we didn't bring water with us or wear hats.... More

Definitely worth the entrance fees! We could have spent more time here than we did and we were there almost two hours. It was so nice seeing all the birds and we got to see two alligators. Learned a lot. The 11 year old boy was well entertained during the entire experience. Would definitely return if ever in SPI again.

I went in the morning before it was too hot and while the rest of the family was sleeping in. The volunteer at the front desk was so kind. Not much to the brief movie, but worth the trip for the walk. Many varieties of birds up close. Don't forget to look down into the water. I saw several large... More

A great way to learn about local birds and those on migratory paths and to see resident alligators, too! Vistas from the tower are not to be missed. Displays on the 2nd floor are detailed and informative. Nice gift shop, too. Daily bird sightings are noted on a white board in the entry area.

Where else can you see marsh and mangrove birds off an extensive boardwalk network, birds that are adequately used to people that they do not readily fly off when you get near? Great for all levels of birders, since Spring and Fall migrations bring in a lot of non-resident birds. The visitor center is very well done as well. It... More
