The Mission of the Texas Maritime Museum is to excite and educate the public about Texas Maritime history and artifacts. The Museum’s purpose is to offer a variety of experiences to children and adults by collecting, preserving, and interpreting items of historical interest for educational purposes; to recount Texas maritime history through artifacts, documents, and other materials of unique or historical value; and to exhibit items to further the public interest, knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of such material and related historical background. The Museum’s collections and exhibits are based on four central themes: History and Technology of offshore petroleum production and transportation History and Development of Texas seaports, maritime communities and maritime commerce along the Gulf of Mexico Exploration and Settlement history of the Texas Gulf Coast beginning with the Spanish and French The Texas seafood and fishing industry

Really enjoyed this museum. Especially enjoyed the self passed video presentation. also liked items and pictures of old fishing lures and old boat motors

From the ancient shipwreck to oil drilling to shrimping this little museum has it! Was looking for something cheap and indoors to do with my 4 year old so we drove up here from Portland. Lots of things to see and read. Interesting history about...More

It is a very well done museum hi lighting local boating and shipping industries. It also is one of the seven museums in Texas showcasing exhibits from La Salle's La Belle shipwreck that was found and excavated a few years ago in Matagorda Bay.

Small collections on some gulf coast history. A little about the LaSalle shipwreck - the display tells you to go to the Corpus Christi science and history museum for more information. There are also some small exhibits about shrimping, navigation, fishing equipment and a exhibit...More

Enjoyed this museum with my family. Lots of interesting items learned about. Interactive items for everyone to learn from. Worth taking family too. Has an observation deck as well to look from.

All four of us enjoyed touring the air conditioned museum after shopping at the art show in the heat. We were especially pleased that they had a beautiful model of La Salle's ship, The La Belle, that sunk in the Madagorda Bay in the 1600's....More
